    Keeping trout?!

Really, killing of introduced species should be encouraged, maybe they should even pay you a token amount per head...
  2. Agreed. You're getting a bit of a potbelly and some jaundice there, Caryl.
  3. You're doing it wrong. The correct way is to get distracted, remember you're filling a tank, look just as it starts to overflow then run knocking over chairs, tables and pets to get to the tap and turn the hose off.
  4. The babies have no need of their father from the instant they hatch. He won't starve to death while looking after them, all he does is fan the eggs with water a bit and maybe chase off other fish. It would take him a month or two to starve to death anyway.
  5. If you like a good selection you don't want an African tank. There's only one species of african cichlid, they just come in different colors.
  6. You must learn patience, kemosabe. All the buckets, pots and watertight containers outside my house are full of water, so it will definitely work.
  7. You could buy several large tanks full of hydrogen and oxygen then burn them inside the tank to create water.
  8. It was an entertaining movie. Well worth downloading for free.

    cheap poly

Use low temp hot glue, not hotter than the surface of the sun glue.

    cheap poly

Hot glue, gorrila glue, white glue, foam safe ca, all work fine.
  11. Someone needs to compare the actual light intensity at the bottom of the tank. It seems quite expensive and since LEDs don't only beat a good fluoro with a good reflector by like 30% efficiency I suspect it's really poor bang for the buck for intensity.
  12. Should have put the corpse next to a ruler.
  13. Those pictures are essentially useless for an accurate measurement. Put him next to a ruler.

    Aggressive BN

I doubt it was the BN that did the damage. They can't bite. They attack more by poking with their cheek spikes. But it could be he knocked the snails over and some of the other fish took advantage of it to nibble on them.
  15. I don't think they get quite that big unless you're being very generous. But I have one that was nice enough just now to swim up onto the glass, measures at 12cm to the base of his tail. Include his tail and to the tip of his bristles on his nose maybe 14. I'd say it would be unusual for any to grow more than a cm or two more. But, anyway, yeah, I consider that smallish.
  16. Doesn't sound like it's really worth much anyway and they want to get rid of it. Badly scratched glass, rubbish stand....
  17. A closed loop setup that puts the pumps outside the tank would minimise the heating from the pumps. Also using something like seios or streams that are a lot more energy efficient would help.
  18. Normal? For an auction to start at $1? Yes, I'd say so. That's kind of how they work.
  19. There are a lot of planes that could land in about 1/20th of its length. Still, you won't be able to do a big lazy turn around.

    cheap poly

Put as thick as you can fit and can afford. Those are the only disadvantages to going thicker.
  21. Are we wanting to know who Charophyte is or chatophyte?
  22. That airfield doesn't seem to be too generous for a missed approach...
  23. I've heard most fish don't like the taste of tiger worms.
  24. Wouldn't want to unintentionally breed the smart fish that know where the food comes from, would we?
