  1. You're annoyed at the mess and inconvenience of cannisters and want to change to a sump? Hahahaha, Going the wrong way there.
  2. Depends on how powerful you want and how much DIY you want. There are a couple server power supplies that could probably supply the 240 watts you mention below for $20-50. Depends how much current you want to carry. If you're wanting 240watts that's going to be some serious current at 20 amps. Probably about $100 for 12 gauge wire. $5256 at $.25/kwh
  3. I doubt it will be enough unless it's in a very warm room.
  4. Most suggest raw, peeled ones. Probably any supermarket would be good enough. I think I got my last batch at New World, but I don't remember.
  5. At the moment... I rarely see my actual background.
  6. You don't want to see them fluoresce then turn the UV off.
  7. Yeah, those little aqua ones are good. Small, cheap, simple.
  8. 1.8? Will need to be at least 10mm, maybe 12mm depending on the height. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/uploads/media/GlassThicknessCE.xls
  9. You know they make replacement batteries... The ones I have are specifically for aquariums. They have alarm settings if the temp goes out of range, tropical 24-28c or discus 28-32c. They were great, like Caryl said only about $10. I don't think Dick Smith has sold them for 5 years or more though.
  10. I have a bunch that look basically like this: I've tested a couple and they're all within a few tenths of each other. I also made an ice/water slush which should have a temperature of 0°c and tested two of them, both read about .1-.2° So, accurate enough for me. I don't think you can get them here anymore though.

    Cycle of live"

You'll have to let us know what they taste like. Nitrates don't shoot through the roof overnight.

    GaH! Koi!

Just checked, up to 5 years, $100K. Koi would go well in a tank with some "Stream guppies"

    GaH! Koi!

Other than jailtime and $200K fine, nope, no problem at all.
  20. Pretty sure zebras and leopards are the same species. Not sure what the offspring would look like, maybe they'd have dashes instead of dots...
  21. Except it's definitely a jewel.
