  1. You clearly haven't opened it up or you'd know it needs a VERY good clean. Keep a bucket nearby to vomit in when you open it.
  2. Hehe, I never would have guessed...
  3. I'm wondering why I bothered clicking on that video when I could wait until daylight then see and hear the real thing?
  4. But if they bite you then they lay more eggs which hatch into more mosquito larvae to feed the fish.
  5. Cheaper and faster than through a cell phone here.

    waste control?

Do you have a horrible case of excess money you desperately need to cure but can't find anything better to treat it than spending it on useless chemicals? If yes, then you need it. Otherwise no.

    TEMP TO HOT

Anything on your tank will add heat to it to some degree or another. A powerhead in your tank drawing 5 watts will add 2-3 watts worth of kinetic energy to the water and 2-3 watts of waste heat. The moving water then loses that kinetic energy as friction against the walls and contents of the tank creating heat. The filter draws maybe 30 watts, the heat you feel touching the top is the waste heat that ISN'T being added tank water to cool it. That usually ends up heating the room air not so much the tank. Lights depends on what you have but assuming moderate lighting maybe 100 watts. Every little watt of light that goes into the tank and gets absorbed rather than reflected adds heat. If you have a hood with the ballasts and lights in it then you're holding in most of the 40-50 watts of waste heat from the tubes and ballasts. That heats up the air in the top of the tank and through that heats the water. It doesn't take much to raise the temp a couple degrees above ambient.

    TEMP TO HOT

It's funny, you can always tell when the hot sunny days are just by the waves of posts going, "Help! I've unplugged my heater but my tank is too hot!"
  9. I use mylar film attached with spray glue to the hood. Glue is cheap, don't remember the cost of the mylar, it's been sitting in the closet getting pieces cut off every once in a while for 5-6 years.
  10. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m95mvMVGQ-0&feature=player_embedded This.
  11. Nope. Not as long as it's dosed as directed.
  12. It's caused by a large amount of a chemical known as Melanin. Yes, it's normal, they're supposed to look like that.
  13. Wow, city water? That shouldn't be anywhere near that high of nitrates.
  14. First thing is to brace the camera against something to help keep it stable. Try changing it to manual and putting it on Aperature priority and change the aperature(The F number) to somewhere near the top of its range. This will give you a larger depth of focus, which is width of the area that will be in focus. But then, you need a longer shutter time which is why you have to make sure the camera is as stable as possible. Also, you can usual manual focus if the autofocus is focusing on a different spot than you want or lock the focus by holding the button half down and move the camera back and forth. Like this picture for example, I had the camera body and lens both resting on the ground to keep it stable:

    Glofish

No, there are not. At least not in relation to this thread.
  16. Rad tortoises! Slower and less deadly than radscorpions?
  17. There are a few varieties of applesnails. They're the only ones that aren't likely to become a pest. The ones that do become pests are trumpet snails, pond snails and ramshorns.
  18. The owner of that coat must have been annoyed that you hooked it....
  19. Good nights sleep is overrated, alarm clocks are underrated.
  20. Whatever you do, don't blow chunks in the boat! Do it overboard!
