Anything that can't fit the neon in it's mouth is a good start.
I have leopard danios, platys, corys, guppies, a SAE, Balloon mollies, Angels(small), bristlenose all in with my neons.
It also depends on the size of your tank
Cool, thanks again Mark
Will keep up the water changes and try and avert a Nitrite spike, lol 50% is soooo much more work in this tank than the small one I am use to
All worth it in the end when it has settled and looks fab though
I have
leopard danios
platys
neons
corys
guppies
BN
Angels
Baloon mollies
I thought it may be too high for the neons and the corys but they seem ok, I guess consistancy is better which is why I gave up on trying to lower it
Does any one know what the young look like?
I remember as a kid, me and my cousin found a little thing that looked just like a piece of seaweed about 5cm long that was actually a fish or something lol
We though it was pretty cool but just watched it for a while and walked off, when we got home and told our parents they though we were nuts and I never found out what it was
Great idea Caryl, it just bought to mind the rugby club up in Kaeo that sold bricks for $5 to lift the club rooms off the ground, they were supported greatly by Close up.
How about sponsor an Animal? Not a huge amount of outlay for people but if a lot get behind it a big sum could be raised
I hope to one day get to Tauranga and visit this place so I am more then happy to help organise this if need be, can't have all these scaled and furry critters turfed out on their ears
I am now at the tail end of an ammonia spike.
Did another 50% water change yesterday, have been doing them daily since the ammonia got out of hand.
Test results from this morning
Ammonia 0.1ppm
Nitrite 0.1ppm
Nitrate 5.0ppm
PH 7.2
There is obviously something in my new set up that is buffering the PH up to 7.2 because no matter how much I try and bring it down the next day it is right back at 7.2.
I suspect the schist I added may be the culprit, I don't want to lose the rocks though so is there anything else I can add that will bring it down a bit? I have a smallish piece of driftwood in there but I doubt it is big enough to counteract the rocks.
Any suggestions or advice gratefully accepted
Thanks
Shucks, I just read the first post and I really don't know what to say.
Livingart, I have seen your posts around here and you are always keen to help and offer advice when you have had plenty of your own problems to deal with.
I am too far away to offer any assistance with looking after animals or fish but I really really hope that everything falls in to place for you
I have a sunsun tank and it is glass not acrylic
I have only had it for a couple of weeks but I am very happy with it so far, looks great and is easy to maintain
My LFS told me that ammolock converts the ammonia to ammonium and that it will still read as ammonia but it won't be harmful to the fish.
I have used it in the past in conjunction with water changes but I was not sure if the ammolock worked or if it was just the water changes doing the job which is why I asked.
I never lost any fish in the other 2 tanks I used it in.
This time I decided to try sort it out with just the water changes and it has worked well, 1 more change this morning and it should bring it down to zero I have had no losses so I am very happy
Those are seriously cute!!! :bounce:
Looks like a little alien of something that ya would just want to pick and hug
Love it, thanks for sharing Living Art
I started with just a PH test kit but saw an ammonia kit on special and grabbed a bargain, but I figure now I have a bigger tank and intend to have more expensive fish in there it is worth spending the extra money to make sure things are just right for them
Well that water change dropped it a little bit, a few days of 50% changes daily should see it right, then I need to go and get a test kit for nitrite
Thanks again for your help Mark
Thanks mark
I was hoping this wouldn't happen but I guess it was inevitable, Happens every time I change tanks lol
Do you rate ammolock as any good?
Don't think there is any where open I can get any from today any way
Hi, I have just moved all my fish from a 75 litre tank to a 200 litre tank, I moved all my ceramic noodles from the old tank and as much water as I could. The tank has new gravel, rocks etc.
2 days ago the ammonia was reading .01 ppm and last night it was reading 5.0 ppm!!! I did a 40% water change and got it down to 2.0ppm.
My question is, should I be doing a big water change... say 80% or should I do smaller ones daily?
I also have some of those pads in the filter (sorry no idea what they are called) that are meant to remove ammonia from the water, I put them in before it spiked though so I can't see that they are doing much.
Thanks
