  1. I have used aqua science Aqua Blue to treat whitespot in a BN, along with an increase in temp and increased airation and it worked fine.
  2. I have a 200l community tank, 1 metre long. current inhabitants are: 4 Neons 4 guppies 2 baloon mollies 2 BN's 3 Khuli loaches 3 cories 1 clown loach (he is the snail removal crew and probably not a permanent resident) 1 siamese algae eater 1 small Angel 6 harlequin rasboras 5 leopard danios I would like 1 larger fish that will be the showcase of my tank, something that looks nice and has personality and that won't eat it's companions lol is there anything that fits the bill?
  3. Amazing photos Love the bird shots and the gecko is gorgeous!
  4. I watched the replay this morning, was quite a good doco, couldn't help wondering if the people involved were members here.
  5. I don't like to laugh at others misfortune, but that is pretty funny  Hope you don't lose any more fish though
  6. Cool I just found them online and came back and you had already told me lol They certainly are different, I found one in a lemon tree about 18-20 years ago but never fond out what it was and this one I found in a pohutukawa tree. My son is dying to take it to kindy tomorrow lol
  7. So the tank hasn't been cycled? Have a read of this thread at the top of the beginners section viewtopic.php?f=10&t=6979 It gives info and links about starting your tank, unfortunately the LFS is not always forthcoming with all the info you need When adding new fish, float the bag for a while and then add a little of the water from your tank at a time so they not only acclimatise to the temp but also the water conditions.
  8. WOW! I always learn something when I come here. I am going to sound really thick lol but I had NO idea that axies were in their juvenile state, now I have read it it makes sense lol but I really had no clue
  9. I have the 200 litre Sunsun tank and I love it The 2 tanks I had previously were both aqua one and I actually agree with smidey that the sunsun are better value for money. I only run the standard filter and my tank is not lightly stocked, not overstocked either though lol and I have had no problems. I also found the seller fantastic to deal with, very very thorough in going through all the bits and pieces for the tank. I am sure you will not regret purchasing one
  10. I have a robocan and it is quite close to my fish tank, although is has a very good lid and I have had no problems. Am about to get some newts though and am worried about how to seal the glass lids on it properly so none of the spray gets in. The way the tank was made means there are small gaps at the front and the back and a nice round hole to put my finger in to lift the lid off. Was thinking some mesh would be good for air circulation and to keep the newts from escaping but not so good for keeping the fly spray out :-?
  11. There is another auction, offering baby mosquito fish with the tank for sale Have reported and asked a question 197552973
  12. That looks fantastic Alan, thanks for sharing What is your background made from? and what is the plant/creeper?
  13. Thanks for the advice guys Alan, any chance of you sharing a pic of your newt home? I have a picture in my head of what I want mine to look like and it is not going to plan  very frustrating! After looking at a lot of overseas sites, there are some absolutley stunning vivariums/paludariums and I hope mine ends up looking half as good as they do
  14. cancel that, back to the drawing board *sigh* I thought it would look so nice too Off to the beach to look for some nice rocks and driftwood
  15. I guess it would eventually shouldn't happen for quite some time though :-?
  16. Hi all We are trying to make a tank/vivarium for some fire bellied newt and need a land area and a water area, to divide the 2 areas we were hoping to use some corrogated iron, but according to the chap at Selleys 0800 number it won't stick. Does any one know if there is something we can use to stick the iron in the tank, it will have soil on 1 side of it and water on the other side. The depth of the water will only be about 150mm. Any help greatly appreciated
  17. No, will only be background to the land area of the tank, no where near the water, although I guess it will be quite damp in there.
  18. Thanks Caryl There is no reason I couldn't just use a few hunks of bark off... say a Totara tree though is there? I wouldn't think it would be poisonous to the newts, would it?
  19. Hi all, I have been cruising lots of overseas sites looking for ideas for my newt tank, I see lots of people use cork bark as a background, just stuck on with silicone. Is this available here or is there any other sort of bark that would be suitable? It wouldn't be in the water, just behind the land portion of the tank. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks Bedazzled
  20. Sounds like fun Unfortunately I am too far away. I followed the link stella gave and found this... Does any one know where these water troughs are?
