  1. I only go to one shop and they know what they are doing Jess is great, really knows her stuff
  2. It wasn't in a shop georgeous, and I whole heartedly agree with you about that place by the cop shop lol I was there yesterday in fact
  3. Today I saw a tank with 2 angels and a gold fish in it, I had assumed that water temp for Angels would be too high for gold fish and the temp for the goldfish too low for the Angels. Is this done often or will one or other of the fish be suffering?
  4. Maybe that is why they are kicked and not chewed
  5. I am not sure if you are serious or not caper lol but I will explain anyway  Kumara is a vegetable, also known as sweet potato (well it is similar) Sucked the kumara is a kiwi saying for died lol same as kicked the bucket
  6. I will pop down tommorrow, and I can go out to the SPCA at the same time What time suits you best?
  7. Sad News about my honey gourami She was fine for a few days then she got the same symptoms and sucked the kumara I tested the PH and the Ammonia and both were fine so I think maybe it was just an unexplained death
  8. Just an update, my plants were obviously just losing the air leaves and are now taking off and looking fab :bounce:
  9. Hi Sam, If you have the posters at work with you I can pop in and get one from you and my partner could put it up at his work place in Waipu if you like? Maybe I could ring the Waipu vet and ask them to put one up there too?
  10. ahhh yes, I have the furry variety lol I have given it a big haircut and taken off any old leaves so hopefully it will come away again
  11. I appear to have a Bacopa australis or a Giant Bacopa (I am leaning towards the giant) , that one is growing quite well Something that resembles a Cryptocoryne walkeri, but the leaves on it turn a bronzey kind of colour after a while, new leaves are bright green. This is the plant I have had the longest and it dosen't grow fast but it does grow lol and a couple of other plants that I can't identify lol
  12. Thanks for that evil, My set up is more about fish than plants lol I like the look of the plants but I don't really have the budget to set up better lights etc. Although I have a good fish load in a fairly small tank (75L) I only have gravel as the base and I do fertalize. I will investigate what types of plants I have and let you guys know to see if you can give me more detailed help
  13. Thanks heaps for your help Off to do a water change and tidy up some plants :bounce:
  14. Oh crap, so I should just let them loose all the leaves and see what happens after that? Perhaps trim them right back and see if they recover? LOL too bad about the ones I chucked out a few weeks ago because they did the same thing  My tank sits up around 26 degrees most of the time, should I try lowering it a bit? The plants were fully submerged when I got them at the lfs and looked nice and healthy. although they could have just come in I guess
  15. I have a 75 litre tank and I have some plants that I have had for quite a while that are growing ok, not very fast but they are not dying on me. I recently bought some new plants ( sorry I don't know the names) and they started off with a hiss and a roar and now they are dropping leaves and look like they are dying. I have a couple of questions... Do I have to have an aquatic mix type base or is it ok just to have gravel? I am using florena once weekly when I do a water change, should I up it and see if that helps or will it make no difference? I am thinking I might remove the sick looking plants today as I am sick of going fishing for leaves lol Any advice will be greatly aprreciated Thanks
  16. Just an update on Melone I had her in the bowl until last night, she was looking a bit better but still not really herself, I had enough of doing the small water changes and making sure the cat didn't find her so I decided to put her back in the tank and if she lived she lived. weelllll, as soon as I put her back in she started swimming round like normal and I put some food in and she ate really well ( she hadn't been eating in the bowl) by this morning her colour was back to normal and she looks healthy as can be. So I have no idea what was wrong with her, suspect she may have just wanted a holiday
  17. I only had her in there for an hour max and put her back in the tank, she is now back in the bowl again (fresh water) But if she perks up I will definately do a few small water changes if I have to keep her in there
  18. aww shucks, thanks for the offer Sam but I guess you have finished work by now :-? She was looking ok so I put her back in the tank and she has taken a turn for the worse again, by the time I got home from collecting the kids she was looking really dodgy and swimming wonky. I think it may be too late to save her and I am considering putting her out of her misery Very upsetting as she is one of a pair
  19. I will try and get some food in to her and put her back in a few hours if she looks ok, thankfully it is warm here so the water temp is about the same as the tank with a heater. Thanks for your advice
  20. Here is a pic of "Melone" my sick Honey Gourami, she has actually started swimming round a bit since I put got her out of the tank and put her in a bowl and is not as wonky as she was Not a great pic as I have put a yellow fish in a green bowl lol
  21. I did a 40% ish water change yesterday when I first noticed she was not looking well, I have her in a bowl at the moment as I have no other tank I can put her in and if what she has is contagious I didn't want my other fish getting it. I only have PH test kit and that is fine, water looks clear and dosen't smell funny and all other fish are bright and perky Apart from acting strangely she looks healthy I thought I will try and get a pic for you if I can figure out how to post pics to here.
  22. I noticed last night that my Honey gourami wa being a bit reclusive and this morning she was just sitting at the bottom in amoungst the plants, I have observed her and she didn't bother with food dropped right near her. When she tries to swin she is wonky, her tail goes up, her head goes down and she swerves like a drunk person. Any ideas on what is wrong, is it fixable or is she on her way out?
