An air pump is not a necessity I would keep ya little sick guy in his special house and see how he goes, if he is really sick an you think he is suffering then perhaps it would be better to put him out of his misery though As for test kits, I have been told that the liquid kits are better than the paper strip kind but perhaps it is just more personal preference

If possible I would either get a ammonia test kit and a Nitrite test kit so you can test these daily until your tank is cycled or take a sample to your LFS and ask them to test for you, it is possible you have started to have an ammonia spike. Is your water cloudy at all or clear? The advice I received here when I had high ammonia was a 50% water change daily until there is no more ammonia reading, after the ammonia spike comes the Nitrite spike and that means yet more daily water changes.

I was talking to some one at the LFS who said that some one up here had gone to Auckland for the Aqua fun days and bought fish that turned out to be infected with culaminarus (sp) Scary thought when buying 1 fish can wipe out your whole tank. Would be great to have a Q tank but unfortunately it is not always possible

I had 2 platies do that but not any guppies LFS said that maybe they had internal parasites or something. It was quite some time ago and I was even taking the fish out and feeding them on their own in a bowl so they could get plenty of food but they ate plenty and just got skinnier and skinnier and died

OH MY GOD!!! I am gutted!! Just went to do a water change and found I have forgotten to plug the filter and heater back in, my poor fish are freezing their nuts off And I have probably killed any sort of biological filter I had going Have plugged it all back in and done ammonia and nitrite tests and nothing has changed since the tests I did yesterday but time will tell I guess. Will just let the heater bring it back up to temp slowly, maybe helped along a wee bit by some warm water *sigh* I can't believe I was so damn stoopid! My poor poor fishies

Yeah they all hang out together, more so now that they are in a bigger tank, in the smaller tank I guess they could see each other from any where and were always spread out a bit but now they school pretty tightly, they look awesome. I will probably get a few more, a big school of them look really cool

That is not a very good photo of them, They have the blue and the red, but not as bright as "normal" neons, it is the base colour that is different I will dig through my photos and see if I can find a decent one
