I am positively distressed at times by some of the sales people who pass themselves off as fish experts.
Recently I met with a senior citizen and his wife who were so distressed at their goldfish constantly dying within days of being purchased. They had been sold a small bowl and fish - had not been told of water changing, overfeeding, overstocking - let alone told of ph and nitrites etc.
A young teenager sold a small tank, 250 w heater, no gravel (it can be ordered later) some strange brand filter, and told she could have her fish (6 various sorts) in five days when they arrived in store.
I am a beginner and KNOW I am. This particular sales person KNOWS ALL ABOUT FISH. grrrrrrrr I am upset for I know how distressing it is to lose fish (by being sold a chinese loach with my angels) and I guess this makes me more upset to have these keen, people started off on the wrong foot and lead to believe it is THEIR FAULT.
sorry folks just needed some ears to let this out of my system.
the senior citzens I gave a 10 gallon tank to and talked them through the basics (letting them know I too was a beginner).
The teenager I gave some gravel and seasoned water and again talked through the basics and now have fingers crossed. I suggested she delay the buying of her fish for a few weeks and bought a test kit, however I feel she will take the fish the shop person has ordered for her. so fingers crossed.
