  1. o.k, so its old news, but i cant get over some of the stuff that people have come up with... from http://imaletyoufinish.com/
  2. same chemical process, which is why you usually do it in small batches when you want to hatch them. i suppose the comercial guys dont have the time/space to do it properly without over-heating.
  3. you can also take your normal brine shrimp eggs and expose them to chlorine for up to 8 mins to remove the shell, then use sodium thiosulphate to stop the reaction, then hatch as normal. ive got the exact concentrations to use in my aquaculture book somewhere if people are interested.
  4. you can hatch decap. its done alot in aquaculture facilities, whereby the decap-eggs give a better hatch ratio.
  5. i had 3 fish go over my overflow box, rosy tetra, penguin tetra, and my fighter male, the other 2 died but my fighter was fine! lucky i noticed! then couple hours later, he was there again! labarinth breathers FTW!
  6. cher, thanks bro, itll be satisfying watching you miss. you forget the boer war, guerilla tactics are where im at! hahaha
  7. myself, i wouldnt bother worrying about the cam for the trraining dives, itl just get in the way, take it for your last 2 open water dives, and if they offer you an extra then take it for that too. i dont think boyancy control is harder in cold water, ive never heard anyone say that before, lol. and ive had better vis in NZ than i did anywhere in New Caledonia when i went. i guess since your pressed for time, your gonna end up doing it there. you could, however, start the course here and get a refferal for your dives over there, ie do the paperwork this side, dive there. just an idea.
  8. technically it should all be to standard, but you can imagine that things can slide here and there. the biggest advantage to doing it here before you go is that youl get your card sent to you abit faster, and, you dont have to do the home-work while on your holiday, as tiny and easy as it is, it takes some time. doing it here means more time to go out and dive while your there.
  9. then itl grow up thinking its american indian...
  10. but then how will people know if its a boy or a girl?

  12. hahaha, brilliant... had some idiots i dived with, we were diving behind the mercs at "the archway", 50m++ vis, and it drops off to over 100m. we were told not to go beyond 38. next second my buddy is upside down under a rock chasing a crayfish, my guage said 40, and he was at least 5m below me, next second he shot up, and wouldnt you know it, Out of air... >.< that was the best dive until then, and it became the worst! 2 big boys sucking out of one tank, luckily i had bowt 100 bar left, came up slow as we could manage, got to the drop bottle, stayed there for bowt 5 mins, then came up. I nearly coulda slit his throat with my dive knife for that! lol least to say i never dive with this person now.
  13. ive had near drownings too when i was young, but i stil LOVE the water, part of what got me into fish, i like the sound of my overflow etc, its calming lol
  14. mines chipele, film camera and a case, but i want to get a proper U/W housing for my dads sony handycam and then steal it! mwuahahaha!
  15. id play but you havent bought me my gear for my birthday yet! its ok, christmas is coming soon!
  16. i like that! Feta! suits it being white too
  17. awesome! seems theres a few of us out there, lol nymox, i know a couple people who were terrified of the water, wouldnt swim over thier wiast, had a couple dives in the pool then went open water, loved every minute of it! you should try it, once you get to trust your gear and realise your not drowning, its easy! lol the great FNZAS Dive Squad haha
  18. honda.... says it all... i wise man once said all hondas should come with kickstarts...
  19. just had a thought while reading about david&amys upcoming rarotonga trip, how many people actually dive, or are wanting to learn to dive? just a thought that we could have a dive-crawl, whereby people from different parts of NZ show thier favourite dive spots, i know id be keen! maybe a trip to the aldermans or bay of islands? but first, who dives, what cert have you got, when did you get it, what dive institution did you train under and favourite dive spot maybe? ill start, I am a PADI and SSI open water instructor (owsi 495541) though im currently on inactive status, i qualified in 2007/08, i have over 150 dives, and more un-logged (bad, I know!) my favourite dive spot was training bay at the Aldermans, 50m++ vis, and swimthrough after swim through... Your turn!
  20. your open water dive cert should include the price of your gear hirage(but check anyway!), equipment (your certificate card, log book, dive table or "Wheel", your student manual (GO DIVE or might be a newer version) in this book there are 5 sections, each with a knowledge review that you will have to complete (they are pretty easy, but do take time to read through it, as it will make you a better and safer diver) You should get 4 confined water dives (can be a pool or a lagoon with "pool-like conditions") and youll get 4 open water dives, where your not meant to go below 18m. i say should and meant as some instructors dont adhere to these. some "skills" youl have to complete are: mask clear, mask remove and replace, fin pivot, snorkel-regulator exchange, cramp removal, hover, 10 minute swim/float, tired diver tow, gear assembly/disassembly etc. its a great week or so, and youll end up having so much fun you wont realise your learning! and its the best feeling when you get your cert and card in the mail! we should form a FNZAS diving team
  21. they get snooty sometimes... only want the best and what they feel like at the time, and if it not what they want, theyll sulk till they get it, or until they are really hungry and then they might consider a taste of what you want to offer, but only cos they want to, and it was thier idea all along... pretty boys, they all the same
