  1. Hi all, is there anyone out there who knows anything about stupid freeview decoders please? Ours has been fine-ish and sometimes it wont work when its very sunny or hot, apparently its something called sun fade, much like sky's rain fade i presume. anyway, this was happening the other day and someone started playing with the menu etc and now its really stuffed. we tried re-installing it and that didnt work as it had signal strength but not quailty, so it wasnt working, so we didnt have any channels. i managed to 'fix' it yesterday, but only to have more problems. now when we turn it on its fine, the as soon as the display banner across the bottom goes (after 5-7seconds) it freezes and throws a wobbly, turns off, comes on, works, then starts that stupid process over again..... ive searched and searched the net for ideas but i have come up with nothing. has anyone else had the same problems? does anyone have ANY idea what we can do? please help! i can cope without tv but someone else cant lol!
  2. what will happen on the 28th of September????? we will all get up out of our beds, go about our daily tasks and jobs as usual..... and if not. what will be will be, cant change it. Live life to the fullest everyday I say
  3. haha 10k would probably send that place under. its a great thought though. id say they wouldnt want to give her anything. but i dont think they will have enough to dismiss her correctly. the board that has to approve all hiring and firing wouldnt approve this firing.
  4. yes i know and i agree. the boss clearly (before this all came up) had a problem with her, and i know how some businesses go about getting rid of staff without having to give all the warnings etc. I was told to do it myself, so i am well aware of what is going on
  5. yeah thats what i have said, its just not very easy to find a job in that city and being an 'older' person it is also hard too
  6. LMBC - are you a writer (published or not) because you have a wonderful way with words! I could read your stories all day
  7. Hi all! the outcome from the meeting was a list of about 6 things that needed to be fix or attended to ranging from: - not banking $10 in cash, leaving it in safe for a week. - not charging for photocopying at the end of 1 month (but its all on file so it can be charged at any time) - not using the correct forms for taking down phone messages or credit card details (both of these forms are too small to get lots of info on) - credit card refund that had to be passed onto a ticketing company, but wasnt completed even though they had all the correct information (this is her fault how???) there were some others but i cant rememeber them now. She was given a verbal warning, and was requested to think of how she can fix these things in the future. Right, so all of this happened about a month ago, and shes adhered to all her new things that have to be fixed only to be told yesterday that she has to attend ANOTHER meeting. This time the things include: - not putting a file in correct folder on computer (but it could still be accessed by all who needed to see it) - passing on a job to someone who was supposed to be dealing with it (was to do with writing cheques etc, and she doesnt do that), they didnt do anything about it, and she gets in trouble! - no doing petty cash at the end of the month (there was none to tally up) She was told there was another meeting, bring a support person. She hasnt been given a time or date, or who it to be present. No written request for this meeting has been received by her. And she still hasnt been given a written copy of her verbal warning. Does anyone else think all of the above "sins" are just a little silly?? :nilly:
  8. hi all, going to make a gift basket for a friend. ive got a few ideas but would like some input from everyone. if you were to receive a gift basket, what would you want in it?

  14. offically over it! every day we've had to see rugby this rugby that....argh!! and now its on TV ALL THE TIME, on 2, yes 2 channels (if you dont have sky).....i want to watch other things, life doesnt revolve around rubgy. yes we will spend the next 20 years paying it off.... but yes it is also nice to see towns/cities being done up for the world cup.... i wonder if there is going to be any trouble at the waterfront and throughout auckland tonight....you know all very well that there will be....the drunkens and idiots cant help themselves, what a nice light they will portray us in when they do stupid things......hmmmm
  15. go to this website: http://www.nzkc.org.nz/dogselect.html it has all the dog breeder, small, medium, big, bigger and massive. The information includes the size, lifespan, grooming (if any) exercise, trainability, watch dog, protection ability, what their original function was eg lap dog, gun dog, working dog etc. History of the breed, temperment and upkeep. Also has breeding standards, not really needed unless you want a breeding dog. This site also has breeders names and number so you can contact the ones in your area, Super helpful. They have a cat one too if anyone ever needs it! :happy2:
  16. its got to be able to hold heat/water for the plants, if there is cracks in it thats ok because they can be sealed up. not huge huge!! maybe 40cm or less all round. depends, if i can make it fit on the bench it will do!!
  17. Hi all Does anyone have a terrarium that they dont use anymore, or an old fish tank thats broken, chipped or surplus to requirements? Id like to make a terrarium for a few orchids i have as its a little cold for them here in Dunedin. So I was hoping to get my hands on a terrarium or old fish tank. Could anyone help? I have already looked on Trade Me and there doesnt seem to be anything there at the moment
  18. lol, thats just what mine does! interactive kitty hahaha
  19. mine will watch them, sometime take a swipe, then realise theres glass inbetween, but is mostly happy to sit on the top for the warmth. i used to have 2 bowls with goldfish in them and we had 3 cats watching the bowls (wish i got a photo of this  ) mum and i ended up calling it fish tv!
  20. also, how do you insulate a tank? might need to do it if i want to save some money when we get the tank back!
  21. hmm fan heaters eat power! heres a place where you can go to see how much power all your appliances are using, some of it will shock you! http://www.consumer.org.nz/reports/appliance-running-costs my flatmate used to constantly boil the jug, even though it has just boiled. 3cents a boil doesnt sound like much but when hes home all day and has 10+ drinks a day it was adding up over a month! check out the cost of a dehumidfier! $1.15 - $2.30 24 hours!! the only thing is it will make you look at your household appliances differently....lol....
  22. supasi - i hear ya! babies eat up your power lol. we are used to $150 power bill, we changed compaines and got a $590! i almost had kittens. but we have a dehumidfier going heaps, heatpump, oil heater in our room so that hasnt helped. this month we only had the heatpump on when we needed, oil heater on only at night and open windows instead of dehumidfier. its dropped it about $100, i thought it would of dropped more. :dunno: aquariumbeginner32 - heatpumps are more economical .....but only when cooling and not all the time with heating. if you do get one it pays to find out what is the best setting&temp to run it at and only have it on when you really need too. they are great as they heat up a room quickly. ive lived in houses with and without heatpumped and id rather have one. oh and its good to have a back up (eg fire etc) if the power goes out!
  23. just a local, small business. not a big chain store. anyway its not good to name people or places can get you into all sorts of trouble!
  24. bilbo - shes my mother and i have plenty of management experience so she has a right to complain to me and ask for advice! and she doesnt use facebook or twitter. shes good at her job and does not deserve this. we had a good talk last night and sorted a plan, but it still sucks
  25. yeah and i cant for the life of me figure out what it could be. it could be a redundancy but id find that hard to believe as her job is pretty important and they are already running on minimum staff. its really an ass of a place to work, but shes stuck at it!
