im still in the process of deciding what fish to start with in a new tank... i was looking at discus, but the malawi cichlids also grab my eye too..... - sorry discus ppl - but what makes cichlids better??

no id give it another few days. some fish dont magically get better over night. just imgaine, if uve been harrassed for many days or even weeks, how you would feel, it takes a while to feel safe again. Once feeling safe, maybe able to regenerate fins etc. good luck

thank you so much for that info. very indepth. the rumour of them being hard to look after isnt going to put me off having them, just want to do it right!! and i agree - bare bottomed tanks dont look that great!

also, what plants are good in a discus only tank?

Ive done a bit of research on these beauties and by the sounds of it they are pretty hard to keep. What advice can you give me about Discus?

which is better? internal or external filters? which is better for fishes health etc? which is easier up-keep wise? can you use external on smaller tanks, and visa versa? What do you use (internal/external), what brand and why? Sorry for all the questions, but ive gota know so i dont make a mistake.

Where i live we have crappy water. I was wondering what everyone does with their water? do you store it in large containers? if so where did u get them from? or do you have suggestions on what i can do. I know i can treat the water before i put it in but can you store water in big containers (to allow the chlorine to evaporate) to save you treating lotsa water?

none!! before i moved to Wakatane i had to sell my fish & tanks. To risky to transport. So now its time to get started again.

I have done Certificate of Animal Care (1 step up from the course your talking about Caryl), which is like an introduction to Vet Nursing. I found this course really good. It covered all animals, first aid, zoonotic diseses etc. There was a unit standard on fish, not extra in depth ( i ended up knowing more about fish than the teacher did) but still very informative. The Companion Animal Services course is really a course for people who want to go into pet shops etc. For the selling side of the animal world. Hope that helps!

i am after perferably brackish puffer fish

PUFFER FISH does any one have or know where to get puffer fish from? I am in desperate need of some. Any help would be appreciated and it looks like im not the only one who is after one!!!
