  1. How would I mount it though? Also, are they good quality?
  2. Hi everyone. I was looking on a website and found this metal halide lamp and it is extremely cheap. http://www.fish-street.com/product_deta ... y_code=NZD I want to know if it is good-quality, and if anyone has ever had any experience using it before or could give me some advice about it. I'm setting up a tank and I was thinking of using 3x 24watt T5HO PowerGlo tubes, but this is far cheaper, plus costs much less to replace a single bulb rather than 3. I don't want to rush off and buy something I know nothing about and to have it malfunction or something or make annoying noises... Joe
  3. You're good at breeding things - why don't you have a go at breeding the Cardinals yourself? Then you can have 150 instead of just 50! Plus you'll save a lot of money.
  4. Wow your fish are spectacular I love the Apistogramma agassizii male. He is awesome What is that little silvery apisto, with a black stripe, above the lotus leaf in the 3rd photo?
  5. I think you should definately consider doing an Asian blackwater tank with Sundadanio axelrodi (if you can find them of course!). Other fish you could have in it are CPDs, Mosquito Rasboras, Boraras maculatus, Danio tinwini, Trigonopoma pauciperforata (you can purchase these at Oraganism, and they are very high-quality), Trigonostigma hengeli and Trigonostigma espei.
  6. Yes it is definately not Indian fern, or even Hygrophila difformis. It has similar leaves, but grows very much like Ambulia and Cabomba. I think it's Hottonia :bounce: ... Probably accidentaly imported as H. difformis or Indian fern (if plants are being imported). Under good light and with plenty of nutrients it will grow like this: http://www.aquascapingworld.com/images/ ... stris1.jpg
  7. For something 90-100L, I think you should get either an Eheim Classic 2213 or an Aqua One CF1000. If you want something really quiet, I would go for the Aqua One filter. It makes no noise whatsoever, but my Eheim Classic 2213 produces a slight humming noise, that I sometimes find quite annoying at night.
  8. Wow that is looking awesome! What is the small grassy plant in the middle?
  9. Yes, kribs are awesome! Especially wild kribs! But remeber, to raise the fry successfully, you'll need a 60-70liter tank (bigger if possible) with good filtration (Eheim Classic canister filters are good, plus they aren't too expensive; otherwise, Aqua One canister filters. They're good value for money too).
  10. They're not unique though. In fact, I personally find them quite boring
  11. Sorry not at the moment. My tank is choca full of plants. I'm setting up a 60liter tank soon, so I'll PM you then. First I have to track down some Sundadanio axelrodi 'Blue' and breed them before I get the 60L.
  12. 25 liters is a bit small to breed something in. If you get something about 50 liters you could try and breed some Boraras brigittae (Mosquito Rasbora) or Sundadanio axelrodi (if you can find some).
  13. I'm really looking forward to this article :bounce: Sounds awesome :bounce:
  14. Wow! I'll have to get some of that one day.
  15. I have been told that airstones will get clogged, causing a buildup of CO2 gas, resulting with the bottle exploding. Pollen Glass CO2 Diffusers are much better, as they are specially designed for DIY CO2 systems. http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/3457/nano1rb2.jpg
  16. Awesome! What's the little green plant in the foreground?
  17. How good are these? http://www.hollywoodfishfarm.co.nz/deta ... tt/m/1053/
  18. Kiwiplymouth, could you please post some pics of the plant itself?
  19. Someone should make a sticky on DIY CO2 and how to make it etc. I use it and I've had really good results. I have tonnes of Windelov fern, which grows very well in my tank, but before I had the CO2, it grew extremely slowly and sometimes died off. I have recently given a whole lot away, plus I have a heap more going to a new home. I found my Xmas moss also grows very well with CO2, and my Crypt. balansae is almost always pearling. I use one of those little pollen glass diffuser thingies too. The ladders are too big and bulky.
  20. Man that sucks . Mine hasn't broke yet, and hopefully it never will. I am actually not going to start getting stuff ready for the tank just yet; if I can't find those fish that I want to breed, there is really no point in buying the tank and thermostat etc unless I am 100% sure I will be able to find those fish. So far, I've phoned some petshops in Christchurch, and none have them. I asked a couple to see if they can order some, as well as the shop in Blenheim. If I can't get the Sundadanio axelrodi, then unfortunately this project won't happen (but at least I'll have that money for my other tank projects ).
  21. Apparently Flourish Excel will melt val. The next best thing, which I've found works really well, is to overdose the tank with API Stress Coat. Suck it up with a syringe, and squirt it directly on to the algae. Or you can just dump it straight into the tank if you are too lazy  It's important to do lots of water changes when dosing because when the algae dies you have all that dead decaying algae in your tank, so some of the water needs to be regularly replenished.
