    My two tanks

Nice layout, but I am really against the tacky ornaments :-? . You can get much nicer replacements - rocks and bogwood, and they come in all different shapes and sizes. I'm sure you can find something that will look great . Any plastic plants should go too. Joe
  2. Apparently Dalton's only lasts for a year, and then needs to be replaced. You'd probably be better off getting JBL AquaBasis Plus, which is a specially formulated aquarium substrate fertiliser. I've heard very good things about it too.
  3. They also love NovaFry too!
  4. No, leave everything how it is. It looks good. I reckon you should grow moss on the filter.
  5. Wow I love your tank I definately prefer this to the treescape tank 8)
  6. Here's a little tip: When I bred them, it was my first time ever breeding fish. I didn't realise CPD fry needed constant feeding. I bred approx. 35 fry, which I had for over a month, but only reared 7 to adulthood. So don't make the same mistake as me! Remember to feed small amounts of food regularly. I've bred other fish - Swordtails, Flag cichlids etc, and I've found with different species they need different amounts of food, regular feeding, or feeding only a couple of times a day. I do wish I still had my CPDs. I put them in my community tank after I spawned them, and they slowly disappeared. I am still unsure of what happened to them. I don't think they got eaten, because at the time I had barbs, danios, tetras and gouramis. Maybe they got sucked up the filter? I'll have to get some again one day.
  7. Callitriche stagnalis. Can be grown emersed, and submerged (shown in the picture from my book), but does not do well in tropical water from my experience. EDIT: And it doesn't smell either.

    Co2 Set-up

But if I continue being the way I was, then it will happen sooner or later... And sorry wellmax for sabotaging your thread.

    Co2 Set-up

Sorry, I wasn't meaning to make it sound like they are no good, because I understand they are excellent, but I just think they look very ugly. I should choose better wording next time I voice my opinions - I have to be careful of what I say on the forums, or I'll end up with everyone on here as my enemies. I'm quite pathetic really.

    Co2 Set-up

How big is the tank? If its quite large (200 liters or more), you can get cheap ADA-style diffusers on Ebay, which certainly beat those hideous Rhinox things.
  11. Awesome :bounce: It's a shame I can't have many tanks, so I can't get these fish I'm already planning to get different species, and I'll have room for these, but I most likely wouldn't enjoy my tanks if I clutter them with every fish I see and then buy. I like just a few species, to keep it simple and effective, and lots and lots of plants What other fish have been imported recently? I know there are some Sundadanio axelrodi. Any Apistogramma trifasciata 'Rio Guapore, or Agassizii 'Super Red' and Alenquer'? :bounce:
  12. Wow! Is that your fish? If so, I didn't know we had these in NZ :bounce:
  13. Happy birthday Zev for yesterday Hey phoenix, I love that pic of Rusty! He is so cute!
  14. Wow that is fantastic! :bounce: Wonderful photo too by the way. I must say, you have great photography skills.
  15. Oh woops sorry, I misread that piece  Dwarf Neon Rainbows are really cool too, and they will look nice with the Pseudomugil furcartus, so you can get both if you want
  16. Gouramis don't school. Ther're sort of all over the place, rather than sticking together in a group.
  17. Oh yes yes! I forgot about them! They're wicked! I saw them for sale at Redwood Aquatics once, I think they were about $4 each. They had them for sale at the petshop here once too, and they didn't know what they were, so sold them for about $3 each.

    Terracotta Pot

Use a hack saw. Cut the pot when it's wet. Soak it in water for a few days. It is extremely easy to cut when wet, and doesn't take long either.
  19. And they are very pretty too. But they grow quite large and eat plants, so you would have to have them in a tank without plants, or very tough plants like Java Fern and Anubias. I think a large shoal of Rasbora agilis would look fantastic! I have 10 at the moment, and they are one of my most favourite fish I have ever kept. I can email you photos if you want. They are a bit larger though - around 7cm fully grown, but they are a lovely torpedo-shaped fish, and they school reasonably well. If you had about 30 then they would school better I think. They're very affordable too. I got mine for $3.90 each. What size are you thinking of? They grow much larger - about 6.5cm long.
  20. Awesome whiptail! I wish I had some...
  21. You'd need quite a lot of sand if you are going to use JBL balls. It should probably be no less than 5cm deep. The reason being is that JBL balls are made out of clay, so if the substrate is too shallow then the clay might leach out into the water column and cloud the water, which creates a huge and annoying mess. So since you'd need no less that a 5cm deep substrate, that will limit your plant options to short species sice your tank is only 25cm high. If you want to, you can put in taller species, but you'd have to constantly trim them all the time. If I were you, I'd probably sell the tank and get something more easy to manage in the terms of plant growing. Maybe something about 100Lx50Wx50H. That way you could get a good get a good 4cm layer of JBL AquaBasis Plus, and on top of that, 5cm of JBL Manado, or sand, plus you'd have plenty of height for the plants to grow. CO2 is easy. I'm only 13 and I've mastered DIY. Pressurised is way passed my budget. It would take me a couple of years to save up for a complete pressurised system! If you want I can give you a simple set of intructions on how to get a DIY system going. Your plants will love you for it.
  22. Be careful, Pakistan Loaches can get really aggressive. I ended up having to sell mine.
