  1. You could actually cut it into individual sheets and re-assemble on site.
  2. Try smashing it into smaller pieces Or alternatively getting lots of people to help lift it onto a piece of old carpet, then slide it around, or onto a wooden pellet if you are going to put it into he back of a van / truck (rented, of course).
  3. meh - its not big, its not little. I'd rather build a 5 footer using decent quality components.
  4. I see calcium based rock in there... But yes, its all about learning. Now you know something new
  5. Hatchets are pretty much all wild caught as far as I'm aware - too hard to feed the fry.
  6. Nah, the quickest way to our hearts is through the rib cage.
  7. I do all my tanks once a week. I occassionally get yelled at for using up all the hot water
  8. It looks like a Silver Hatchet - but it can't be enjoying the pH in that tank if it is
  9. I do 80%+ too - it does no harm to the filter, keeps all those levels near zero, and greaty increases the chances of spawning behavior too.
  10. Mine too, although I'll add Cunning - for food...
  11. I just pour it from a standard kitchen mixer tap at 27 degrees (measured with a hand-held thermometer in the backet).

    Phyto

It must have been a jealous elephant - it went green
  13. Probably a blue actinic 'marine' tube, but overpowering the camera's receptors making it look 'white' Or it could be a 'Figi purple'
  14. The crosspiece is called a dwang - and you can get long multipiece drill bits for drilling cable holes in them from Mitre10 etc.
  15. If anyone can actually get this stuff at a good price, how about posting up details so that we can all save a few bucks?
  16. Ask John what he sells lots of - guppies, mollies, anything priced below $6 would be my guess. Just breed the most colorful fish that falls into that category and you're away.
  17. A sump is simply a secondary tank located below the main tank, usually connected by way of an overflow and return pump. They are used to 'hide' heaters and other equipment out of view (particularly with marine tanks), and in some cases have seperate lighting etc and are used as 'refugiums' to grow algae and little critters that would otherwise be consumed if the fish could get to them.
  18. Sounds pretty average - I'd get better lights before bothering with CO2
  19. There should be a UV bulbs in there anyway (for the turtle's shells), so that won't make a difference.
  20. Generally no - but it all depends upon how heavily the tank is planted and whether there are any dead (calm) spots in there. So long as there is reasonable water movement at/along the surface, the O2 levels will be fine. Its a popular misconception that air pumps add oxygen to the water; they don't, but they create water movement (draw it up from the bottom) which results in gas exchange (CO2 out, O2 in). You can get even better gas exchange using submersible pumps, but they are comparitively expensive. If you tank has a spray bar, orient the holes to 'blow' water along the surface and it should be fine.
  21. They are most likely 39Watts each
