if it was the ph i would expect you to have problems with nearly all the fish, i dies 3 still alive, 2 new gouramis 1 alive 1 dies from poss bact infection how long has log been in there? are you doing regular water changes?

i have run big plecs an bichir together no probs personally i couldn't see a bichir sitting there and taking a plec sucking on it but who knows i see some posts on MFK stating that

remember some types of fish only live a few years, so are your deaths possibly attributable to natural causes?
