  1. Why is everything always up to the Government? Tell me please why it isnt the responsibility of the parents? My eldest daughter is a new entrant primary school teacher and she is asked to tell kids to eat their dinner, clean up their room, dont go to the neibours... and heaps of stuff like that... what do parents do? Seems to me that some would belive that the only thing the parents should do is have the kids. One parent told my daughter that if she wanted the kids to go to school, my daughter should come around and get them why is it all back on the teachers? I do belive that teachers should be backing the parents up but sorry... their is no way its the teacher responsiblity
  2. Born n bred here mate... even my parents have never been there.... even my grand parents never been there but I do have a bit in the closet... grand father was born in Ostrailya
  3. Alan What a silly question Football players talk differently Gesh mate, you can tell your from the Island off the bottom on New Zealand... no culture at all
  4. I think you made a mistake Good on ya
  5. or send them to Auckland for testing in my tanks
  6. Im not for one minute suggesting that it isnt a good/great or best deal... just suggesting that you look at how much money passes from your pocket to the dealers pocket. I would also not suggest that price is the only consideration as helpfullness, quality and just supporting a bussiness you like of thats handy are every bit as important. I use Visi-Therm heaters and they probably cost twice as much as other cheaper brands but I have faith in them as I cant afford to loose some of the fish I have... Im happy to pay more for MY piece of mind
  7. Sorry mate but thats not correct Some glass companies can use a spray polyurithane to gloss up the glass... it makes it nice and shinny...Silicone that is made for glass sticks possibly better to perfect surfaces
  8. The retail price of say 5mm glass is (from memory) about $145 plus GST per meter If I gave you a 15% discount off retail you would pay $123.50 per meter The price I charge is $86 per meter therefore full retail (as per the large companies retail cost) is $145 If I offered a 15% discount the cost to you is $123.50 But my price is $86 percentages are a dangerous way of price structures as inflation slowly (over a period of years) gets twisted. All companies need to know ALL their costs and add margins from there. I charge the same price to all customers whether they are small or large. The large customer will often say how come Im paying the same as someone that only buys $100 worth of glass when I buy $2000 per month? I take the reverse view and say why should I rip someone off that dosnt need as much glass? The system works (Ive used the same system for 22 years) We have a downturn in NZ but October was my busiest ever month (highest turnover) November was the 2nd best ever November December was easily the best December January will be either the best or 2nd best January Some of the most successful companies here in NZ are the fast foor outlets and they also work on a cost plus deal rather than work out the maximum they can get and then discount from time to time Hope this helps Luke
  9. That comment is NOT aimed at any retailer (including Animates), its simply a comment as people often ask about discounts and not look at the price they pay
  10. thing to always do is to work out what your paying... discounts and deals should be only looked at in what amount of dollars you dish out In my company, Im really happy to give 10 or 15% off retail as that would mean I charge more for the glass.... In general, Im 25 to 40% off the retail so simply see how many dollar you pay out and forget deals/offers
  11. just imagin Wok and myself standing in the goal... nothing would get past  I could cover 3 quaters and Wok the rest

    Aphyosemion Striatum

I breed them but as I mentioned to you in your PM, the male/female ratio is 10 f to 1 m so they are hard to get as males are in short supply The easiest thing is to get a wanted in the Killi Club newsletter
  13. biggest problem with the Killi is the name another problem is that people see one and think that they are all the same not realising that there are thousands of different types that all look different. A LFS here in Auckland once told me that killis dont sell and I asked what type she was talking about.... she told me killis. She simply didnt realise that there is more that one type. Its like saying tetras are all the same. The Bird Barn here in Auckland sells plenty and is often asking me for more. A lot of breeders sell them too young as most killis are a bit timid so the smaller ones hide. If they are close to full grown, they dont hide as much.
  14. Chances are that had I paid cash for it I would have saved another $200. A couple of years ago when 50inch plasmas were $6000 our tv blew up and we decided to buy another. Best deal advertised was $5995 interest frees over 2 years, I paid cash and got it for $3500. 3 years ago we did up the back half of the house. New kitchen etc... the white ware was $11000 but again I got it for $9000 for top quality. Thing is that over the last 2 years, interest rates for money borrowed for business has been rising to 16% and the "interest free" deals that have been advertised have to be paid for by the retailer so they are paying for that and including the interest on their retail price. It may well be the best deal for you but if they can get their money out of the sale quicker and put it in the next item, they are achieving a greater stock turn over and therefore making more money in the long term. Every true manager (not just a person in charge of a outlet) reconises the only way to make money is by turning over stock.... not by large markups. The supplier that I buy 99% of my stock from says that I am the only one of his customers that has increased sales in the last 4 months and our prices are the same as they always have been which is cheap and designed at people that pay up straight away. October was a busiest ever month November our 2nd best November December our best ever December and January will be our best ever January Stock turnover is the only way you can make money, if stock is sitting in a shop, its costing interest for the overdraft that has paid for it
  15. I also find that the more time people spend with their dogs after hours means the dogs miss them when away... these will often bark from the time you leave untill the time you get home creating a problem for niebours that are home through the day
  16. the problem has been caused by people borrowing to buy rather than save. 30 years ago, we needed 20% deposit for a home but up untill about 6 months ago, you could get one on no deposit. Thing is we all need to budget and save for things rather than just borrow. People will spend thousands on say a car and as soon as you drive it away its devalued what sense is that? When your set up and secure and can save for that car, great go get it and enjoy it but dont pay too much for it and have to pay the interest. Same with a house, If you save 20% (and you can by going without) and buy a "beginner"home you would need $60,000 deposit. The interest alone over 20 years is a huge saving meaning you can pay of your mortage sooner and have the finer things in life. Go with out the over the top stuff now so you can enjoy your life later on

  19. Another thing that it would pay to do is join the Killi club... That way we can all keep an eye on what everyone has so they dont die out as a few other specie have. Even if you loose them, its knowledge we need to have/know. Probably the most common peat spawner we had here 12 months ago was the Korthausae Yellow but they were so common that not many people bred them, now they are in short supply. Another was possibly the easiest Notho to breed, the Guentheri reds, and they almost died out but thankfully we were able to get the few remaining and get those going again. Nigripinnis are without a doupt, the most beautiful Killi you will ever see in natural sunlight and we need to keep track on them to make sure they dont dissapare
  20. Nigripinnis are peat divers This means they dive into the peat and will completely dissapare. Yesterday I removed a peat pot with no fish showing and just as I was about to empty the contents (the peat) into a net to squeeze the water out, a female came up As EJ said, he uses plant pots, I use weighted plastic containers with a hole cut in the top to allow the fish to enter. They will not breed in mops at all
