  14. slightly off topic but closly related few years ago my middle daughter broke her arm for about the 5th time (she has to always beat guys that are twice her size). A&E reception started to fill out a from for her which found unusual as I was there. Where it asked for "name" this woman filled out her own name and when I pointed it out she told me to sit down as she knew what she was doing. I had had enough so walked to her side of the counter and grabbed another form as she called the security. Thankfully the security guard (an Island guy that had trouble speaking english) could see her mistake and sorted it out. I was later told that she had been there for over 3 months and they couldnt get rid of her. The way the security guy sorted it out, there is no doupt that he had had to do it before as well. Ive never had a problem with any medical staff but some of the clerical staff would never ever be employable in the private sector and thats what your fighting against still now
  15. wish I had known this this afternoon... could have shown you a few things Best advice is to record everything and never throw away any contact of any type at all. I have a condition that is far from uncommon but after waiting to get into the system for longer than was normal, I was told that I had already been treated. (The initial treatment called for me to be admitted for the day {only} and be totally knocked out). When I told them that I had never had the procedure, they told me that my records showed that I had so I was wrong... not even mistaken... I was wrong!. Most people remember their first time they are "knocked out" as its a bit scarey but no, I was wrong according to them. It took several letters ending up with the director of the hospital before they admitted that they had mixed my records up with a lady with a similar problem. Once your in the system, I cant fault it but until then keep everything including the envelops (has the date stamped of it) and make sure you contact them well before or your apointments will be reallocated. When dealing with any government department at all, record everything you can including names, times, dates and rough discription of the conversation
  16. I will check it out at work tomorrow and let you know as Im sure he has made a mistake
  17. at the retail level there is over $100 per meter difference so they must have quite afew offcuts around?
  18. Warren Do you think that low ion will make any noticeable difference? I did an experiment (useing eyes only) and found that out of 8 people, none could tell the difference but it was only 6mm
  19. from a strength point of view you can use thinner glass however the glass will bend more and cause a breakdown of the seal... silicone Your advisor is correct in telling you that toughened glass is 5 time the strenght of annealed (not toughened)glass. The weak point of toughened glass is the edges. Simply put, glass is toughened by shrinking the outside surfaces and placing in inside under pressure. This creates strength which is sitting there waiting to be released when the edges get damaged. On some toughened glass you may well have noticed damage to the edge...may not be broken but it can break at any stage. Stick with the thickness recomended. Both Warrens calculator and the glass merchants calculations are similar. I tend to go overboard as I have seen far too many disasters. DONT CUT CORNERS please
  20. (And before anyone thinks we should have just got part time jobs, people did, and they were failing papers because of it) My daughter worked at foodtown, the warehouse and still got a masters in education?? No, They couldnt go out as much as their friends that did fail. Most students think that the money they borrowed should be either interest free or written off but that teaches nothing at all and means that the rest of the working peoples tax should suppliment or be given to them. Quite frankly, too many people are in uni taking courses that there is little or no employment chances for. They way I see it, if their is say 100 jobs expected in the accounting field, Uni's should only accept the TOP 120 students. I also feel that a lot of people take a course at Uni as its the thing to do before joining the work force. This is going to upset some in here and its not ment to be personal but a business course is almost like a BA and is a waste of time and money. Every company I have dealings with want to train their staff in their ways without the hassel of having to re-educate the degrees that have been taught by people that have never run a business of any size. Sure, if there are no jobs, Uni or the armed forces are great and far better than sitting down at home but Maccas, warehouse or foodtown are all great leaning places as well. Most older people would respect far greater a person working in a beginner job more than a Uni student that has a worthless piece of paper Sorry to rave, I suppose age and seeing people go wrong does that to me
  21. I think that as a parent some of the best things you can teach your kids is For every action, there is and equal and oppersite reaction There is no such thing as a free ride Its easy to get ahead in life, YOU just need to do it as it wont just happen for you if you wait for someone else to do it never blame someone else
  22. Rick (to be fair) wasnt5 suggesting UV glue but I just wanted to make sure there was no confusion. No glass merchant will or can offer a garentee other than leakage as the use of it is beyond out control For instance. UV glue (it sets when exposed to UV light) is great to use in a showcase as its really clear and is best when the joint is very thin (Silicone works best when it has a 1mm or 2 of gap) so you get a very clean joint. I have made some like this for showcases for antique dolls and similar but after they leave my factory, I have no control what they will be used for.
  23. PM sent UV glue should not be used in mitre joint as it sets with no give and expansion of one piece and retraction of the other will creat thermal breakages. UV glue is normally used in a situation where maximum strength is needed and there is no temperature difference in glass. It should never be used in aquaria
