  1. for the last 3 years I have scanned the breeding scheme/lists and contacted members and breeders from years gone by. Where as they often do not have fish or those specie that I was interested in, they were often able to point me in the rite direction. This has meant that at least 3 specie of killi has reappared from peat that was lying around in a hot water cupboard. The breeding scheem is really good Im telling you. The minimum of 10 to register is in my mind good as well as it allows interested people to know that the fry found in the water change bucket was a breeding that is likely to be true rather than I think its a ??? or a ??? (BTW, its not stars David, its a certificate)
  2. effectively Thats what its there for If we were all to register our breedings (FNZAS members) we can see who has what. I won the trophy this last year and I didnt register the breedings to win it (or gold stars ) but so that those interested could see what was here. I havnt bothered this year
  3. I am definatly a FNZAS member I will not sell any fish privately but offer them to the Killi club members and Hollywoods Its simply not worth the time off work to muck around sending them elsewhere and Hollywoods support the fancy so the way I see it, I owe them that respect.
  4. how muck Mark? May be best to put in the t & E section
  5. this is exactly what Hollywoods have been doing with a importer that was prepared to listen and go out of his way for us. Also remember how they imported these fish with people saying they wanted them but never bothered to put their money where there mouth was
  6. I too have recieved fish from Hollywoods that have been exciting to establish. People in general dont want to pay for these specials that arrive yet are excited as well when they come in. Problem I find is that those in my club/fancy wont commit to breeding them so they simply die out again Apathy is a great problem but my disapointment is caused by my want for the fish of my interest to become established whereas others in my club dont share my interests in getting these fish here and breeding...problem is mine and Im beginning to belive we should stick to the same old specie thats already here I simply cant be bothered breeding now days so when mine are gone, so will I I too have caught the apathy bug
  7. and in the answers themselves it shows that they too are very young... not only in age
  8. there have been many times when I have looked at what some of you have posted and thought what are they on about. Im sure that equally you have thought the same of some of my posts. Sunrise would not have posted unless it was of interest to them. As they said, dont bother reading their posts if they are of no interest to you. There are many many posts I cant be bothered with, things like a heading of "help" and similar come to mind. Slaging of retailers that are our life blood in this fancy is another.

    live foods

DONT FEED THEM bag them up and I will dispose of them for you OK No charge I suppose Im just a nice guys eh
  11. Plus those in larger centres get markets all the time so the point of advertising a market is missed on some. We really look forward to the fairs and markets in Coromandel but rearly go to them in Auckland as its probably too much of a good thing here
  12. so are we counting the time spent now? I play bowls and practice at least 2 hours a day and play all day both days at the weekend You decide the dollar value. Maybe we should just look at dollars spent eh? Honestly look at what you need to spend and think about the live food you can grow/collect Tin of brine shrimp eggs is say $60 to $80 dollars and will feed your fish for a year mozzies daphnia micro worm grindle worm white worm black worm oh and may be a bit of flake every now and then?
  13. Kerry has been the top flier in NZ for the last 30 years Gibby was the person who started the McMillian strian... Gibby McMillian
  14. Or give up fish and play golf with weekly costs of say $40 for 4 hours on one after noon per week? Fish keeping has to be one of the least expensive per hour hobbies you could ever wish for
  15. I use to race Gibby McMillans birds out of area for him here in Auckland Still never heard of Jones though and Ive had racing pigeons for 35 years, dont have them now mind you I use to import and arrange auctions for Nick Brent from Sydney and through him had direct Louella birds here I was one of the first to import in he early 90's Which club do you race in? Do you know Kerry Fraser?
  16. Jones? I use to import Jansens but not sure where the Jones part came from I raced for many years myself My wife has about 100 www.weddingwings.co.nz
  17. did you know that pigeons in the wild rearly live more than 3 years but in the loft live up to 20 years? Better health and food Keeping things in captivity is not wrong but they should be kept with correct housing and care
  18. I wonder if out fish enjoy being caged up in a tank?
  19. Great shots Your correct, my best shot is still from a point and shoot. What a better camera allows you to do is have more scope with you photos The above image is of my 2yo grand son (Zen) looking at his new born sister. This sand filter allows me to highlite him. By using different lens or filters allows you a lot more enjoyment of yet another hobby. I suppose its like having a 2ft tank and keeping a few pretty fish compared to foolish killi people like me that have several (45) tanks. Its all about enjoyment and hobbies but you can take fantastic shots with even the cardboard throw away cameras for sure
  20. i have the 50 and tend to use the 18/55 more. im not unhappy with the 50 but dont carry it with me so make do the 100 is a great lens. problem is that where dose it stop?ive just bought a 18/85 for closer dress photos for brendas website i guess the next will be either a 400 or a 100macro i now have 5 lens and about 40 filters with the 50 and the sharpness, you can still crop and blow the image up and even further with the 100
  21. lay on the blanket you will put on the floor of the van upside down so that the edges of the tanks slightly dent into the blanket and stop them moving. Use crunched up paper inbetween the tanks and use masking tape to hold them together (remembering that the crunched up paper will hold them apart). If you need to stack some on top, again a blanket but this time stand the tanks up side up tape together again with crunched up paper. STACK TO THE FRONT OF THE VAN. you do this as you will rearly out drag the tanks but can out stop them
