  5. glass weights 2.5kgs per square meter per mm of thickness 1000 x 1000 x 2.5 = 2.5kgs 2.5kgs x say 6mm thick = 15kgs
  6. No You wouldnt get 800 large fish into a bag 800 is small fish... the larger the fish the less in the bag (and the higher the cost each of course) MAF demands only one type of fish to a bag I know that with Killis, a bag would contain 50 to 100 Tetras would be maybe 400 The ferdis are 15 per box so would be single packed & naturally the freight content per fish is quite significant. The fancy plecos are normally around 15 – 50 per box depending on type and nature
  7. I have what I regards as a good relationship with an importer and he has made a few points that are worth keeping in mind This importer has now added the latin names back on his lists as David wants. problem is that unless your a fish nut (us) or its a complience issue(the importer) there are not too many people that are fluent in Latin Most LFS only want/use common names as they are easier to use. He mentions that if a name is hard to pronounce the LFS are reluctant to buy the fish for fear of being embarrassed. He mentioned a store that reported a Barb Cherry as being dead on arrival so just think if it was long latin name. Availability and saleability is whats behind any new imports. An example is a uaru ferdi would cost over $400 in the shops and they need to assess how many would sell NZ wide. They need to purchase minimum amounts which is usually a quater of a box which could be 400 to 800 fish. He is in support of the great work that is going on but as mentioned by others, because its been added (hopefully) it may still not come into the country. Personally, I want more killis on the lists and would buy fish myself but there is no way I can afford either money of the room for up to 800 fish Also a big thats for people getting back on subject and being constructive
  8. Coffee tables and furniture is often designed around "off cutts"
  9. Talk cost nothing at this stage Funds to support the FNZAS's ideas and project come from members capitation fees ($10) per member and another sourse that Jennifer may wish to mention but as Im not a deligate of exec, I feel that I cant mention

  13. at the risk of stiring it up a bit and with no offence meant to anyone at all This started as a lets get things added to the aproved list thread. It was asked what the FNZAS was doing and this was answered in a vauge way as those involved have not been involved with this thread. I suggested that both Reef and David would be a great assett to this sub committee because of their passion and interest. It seems to me that this thread has moved away and become a naming argument Please people, can we not try and convince both David and Reef to join a club and become involved with the FNZAS The thread started so strongly with what appared would become a revitalised push at adding fish to the lists but sadly has degenerated into what appares to be almost personal attached with he said and they said taking over. I have met both David and Living art and both are good people, Reef I have yet to have the pleasure but your passion is clear to all that have read these posts
  14. I had a break of about 25 years. I wasnt caring for the fish and breeding them as I needed to do and started loosing specie that we had here. The time was right. My daughter bought some guppies and I was away again. At the moment, I cant be bothered breeding again and the time is right for another break as again, through lack of breeding, I am starting to loose specie again. With the fish I keep (Killis) I have several that no-one else keeps and other people are not as interested as I. This of course spoils the enjoyment. If they become a chore, get rid of them and if your planing on travel, do it as you can always get them back again at any time. Life changes all the time
  15. Josh Other than people that are pottery people, there will be very few that would allow you to use their kilns. My wife make porcelian dolls and will not even allow ceramics in her kiln. The fumes/colours settle on the sides of the kiln and can re-evaporate and "tarnish" the ceramics or even worst a doll. It normally shows as black dots. Clay is even less refined so would polute even more
  16. simple as possible as office tanks rearly get the maintence they need to remain nice
  17. 25 specie of Killis to update every week? can you really see me doing that?
  18. personally, I think what we have now is almost what your suggesting
  19. I guessed that but thought I should answer anyway just incase others thought all you had to do was get it on the list. We have all ages in here
  20. No It them means that it comes down to economics for the importer If its a really ugly fish like a fighter or something ( ) there will be a limited market for it What it means is that they would be available to be imported provided the importer can get access to them and its worth their while
  21. Why do you need to seperate? You may get more eggs at times but I never seperate my fish and I breed at least 20 different egg layers. In nature they are not kept apart
  22. there are 2 people here in this post that would be a great asset to the FNZAS and to become involved with these committees. Can I beg both David and Reef to join and help drive this area? By pushing under the FNZAS banner you have the weight of the total membership which must be a big help
  23. This is not to do with fish only In my trade I have spent thousands testing and improving glazing systems for double glazing into timber windows. I have the ONLY system that has been tested and proven yet still government agencies teach a systen that has proven to fail from about 5 years on and others try to copy mine. Thing is that those that are serious will always do the work and fund it, they also choose whom they will help when needed. The public become aware of those that have a serious interest in their field and they will often support them more.
  24. With respect Reef when did you attand an AGM/Conference? I have only been to one and the discussion that was spent on that one was well over an hour There are sub committees to deal with both fish and plants and they are dealing with government agencies all the time. You have done your homework so why dont you get in and offer your help to them? I take it that you are a member (being that your very concerned)
