    Dormant time?

not sure really without seeing before and after shots what yr exactly describing but plecos are nocturnal and if hidey spaces are not available he will hide mostly during the day and sleep alot this will seem like hes dead but quite alive when yr sleeping so sounds quite natural to me
  15. if she is pregnant she will show a dark grey to black area in stomach but female is more rounder naturally so a photo would be good to help clarify

    New Addiction

glad you are enjoying yr new addition/addiction they are cool others that you may enjoy are clowns L104 queen arabs L260 king tiger L066 flash pleco L204 meddusa L255 snowspot L213/183 L226 tiger panaque all are available at times in nz and average size is about 10 cm full grown the larger ones that are just as cool are L128 blue phantom L200 green phantom L190 royal panaque L018 gold nugget Lda 33 snowball these grow 20cm + so you will need more MTS to have these probably hope this helps if you want to see what varieties are around in the world and dream a little then www.planetcatfish list all plecos so far discovered p.s i dont actually have a fav as all of the above i have and each has its own interest for me
  17. carbon has to be replaced depending on usage every 4-6 months ) otherwise it will build up nitrogens and dump excess back into the water crashing yr ph this may explain yr problem remove all carbon clean yr filter out in water from the tank give it big 50% water change and see what happens ..although carbon is great for keeping the water clean most fish keepers dont use it unless they replace it regularly or only if they want to remove chemicals after dosing for a disease or such hth mr pleco p.s cleaning it dosent mean the same as replacing it ,its a disposable item kinda like a cigarrette you cant smoke it twice
  18. look for one same size but no and i mean not a whisker of hair should be female also rounder in body shape would be better best of luck
  19. do you run carbon in yr filter system?
  20. hey there caves are made out of ceramic tiles cut them with a diamond cutter attached to a skillsaw or just a tile cutter glue with aquarium silicone but on that note i use bamboo caves and terracotta pots for my bn and only tile caves for my hypans but theres no reson why you cant use them for BN, id make different sizes as not one size fits all hth mr pleco
  21. for angels they will breed on almost any surface even glass/filter intake hoses / and even heaters best ive had is in community tank with amazon sword leaves as i can snap the leaf and remove the eggs but slate at 75 degrees against the glass /upturned terracotta pots /etc work fine ,if in good condition and right enviroment they will breed
  22. realistic price is 20-30 $ per fish retail depending on age and size they are not "hard "to breed and have been bred before in nz the hard part is getting females as alot of them are males best of luck with them if you decide to purhase them
  23. not really except to say yr feeding regieme is about right they can honk down the food at that size ,his belly will give it away if its slightly curved outwards then hes in good condition a sunken in belly is a sign of underfeeding or problems usually i put a 1/2 a courgette in once every two days for something that size and take the remainder (if any ) out the following night dont bother boiling it or microwaving it just put a fork in it to sink, boiling it will make it softer and it will sink easier but it will also break up faster and possibly cloud the water mine scoff 1/2 a courgette in about four hours and they aint 40cm but there is more than one alternate between courgette /cucumber/ or algae wafers (about 4 per serving ) even try mushrooms / some shrimp pellets occasionally and remember it will "hoover up" any left over food you feed the others too HTH mr pleco
