  4. can you find the crack in the concrete and how big is it (the crack ) oh and welcome to the forums
  5. exactly 8) now you know why some Lnumbers are hard to identify had this exact same arguement with myself when i aquired these ones it was only the fact that catbrat knew what they were that convinced me
  6. i would try with just a big airstone in a 2 ft tank with about 3m /2fm ratio ,let them settle in feed well then do a big waterchange after a week and pull the plug on the heater over night and see what happens ..dont forget to plug it back in in the morning the airstone in that size tank with a air driven filter should create enough current but if not you can always replace it with a small powerhead if preffered but i would think that an airstone will help with oxygen saturation levels aswell and this could help trigger them
  7. i agree aquatopia great plecs hope someone out there grabbed a pair while they were around at that size its hard to decide if its male or not ill see if i can get pics of my adult male L052 to show you the difference you need to look for as it grows

  12. no wonder everyone thinks im cute then
  13. can i be invited to watch ...love a challenge
  14. these guys are notorious for changing colour to suit their enviroment and can change from a dull patchy yellow to a bright yellow and dark black stripes in seconds certainly makes them an interesting and attractive plec if for only that reason alone
  15. yeah ditto what he said looked around but all i see are young males third photo was a stab thought it might have been a different fish but its so far away cant see any visable signs of it being male so like i said at that range a possible female keep up the great hunt for a female one will turn up eventually
  16. top two pics look male ish bottom photo poss female but need better photos mate as both can have hairs but males have more. female rear fins should be short and rounded/ males are more oval and longer for fanning body shape is hard at this size but i would suspect females are slightly rounder on well fed individuals Males hairs on pecoral fin can be curved and long and males are generally bigger in size i have L052 not L168 sorry cant help do have one L168 but has eye problem and wont part with it unless i can cure it agree great looking plec and yrs look great i would recommend 78-80 C ph of around 6.8 or 6.6 and a good strong current feed well with protien and have plenty of widish but flat caves have heard they prefer bamboo but cannot confirm this HTH mr pleco
  17. interesting thread ppl and alot of opinions which is good to debate cant really say whos right or wrong as you have all made valid points at stages in yr comments yep great idea and looked into this but it HAS to be on the MAF allowed list before you can import and seen as its not nothing ANYONE can do till it is shame but reality yep couldnt agree more barrie alot of plp are in it for a fast buck and hence trade me but these ppl seem to come and go and if it affects yr local Lfs tto much and they shut down we are all gonna loose point and case was today my airpump died and if it wasnt for Hollywood Fish Farm MT roskill having some mini air compressors in stock on the notion that maybe "someone " might want one alll my fish would be in very big trouble right now but 1 hour later it was replaced and thousands of dollars worth of fish saved , I know its only one smalll point of whats being discussed but without Lfs our hobby is gone because importers will go with the LFs and the only fish available WILL be the ones we breed nearly all my original ple*o stock has come form LFS yep payed a premuim price for them but thats the price im prepared to pay to ensure these guys stay available and if i can breed them then the price should lower point and case when i first bought my L066 king tiger from an LFS it cost me $175 now having bred them and sold some back to the shops you can buy the same species from HFF for $55 thats how it needs to work because we and LFS can live side by side if done the right way Go and honestly talk to yr LFS some time to understand what problems they face with importing/MAF and so on then maybe you can see from both sides of the coin instead of sometimes only seeing one side and to be honest if there are LFS out there that have big houses and multi million dollar houses ..good on em i say ... they took the risk and they have benefitted the gain if anyone here thinks its money for jam perhaps they should open a shop and truley see hwat its like to operate
  18. GH or general hardness will determine how quickly yr ph values swing
  19. ok heres some crappy photos of my male but hopefully you can see what i mean by white stripe on tail and bushy nose and heres mum with a bubba thats one of the species the other is just like yrs kiwi same markings lees dark more brown and white tips on tail but not a stripe ..i think they are two different L numbers but cant exactly locate which one
  20. you mean 7 times a week isnt satisfying anymore dixon ?
  21. i know what you mean kiwi >>>victim, of that problem often
  22. yep have these i will try and take photo of both types (i suck at photography ) to show you the diffference ..
  23. yep by the rear fins id say a juvinelle male but could be wrong bristles will increase with age and get bushy if they start heading up the nose and forehead its male if they stay round the lips its female got heaps how many females do you want ? lol too young to sex at the moment so its pot luck question does it darken clouor in the tank and go almost black ? because it looks stress coloured which is normal for it being held out of water also does its tail have a solid white stripe or two wite marks at each tip ? this will decide which one you have as i have both
  24. 30 odd bristlenose as they grow require more oxygen saturation in the same tank as say 4 adults so id say you just found the limit of yr tank size ammonia or a blocked filter will result in the same process but id say it was just a volume of water/air ratio thing that suddendly arose keep up the water changes and the airation and/or split them up into other tanks you may find that their growth will stunt a little if theres too many competing for the same amount of food as they grow
