nice plecs firenzenz my guess is you have ..and id like to know if im wrong coz they are interesting species 1 Clown or L104 2 Green Phantom L200 3 Goldie pleco 4 L008 5 Royal L190 6either an L16 or an L30 but more likely an L30 as it looks like its a hypan 7 L260 queen arab like i said very nice collection
  2. over 25 years of doing fish yep ive learned them all
  3. NEVER throw out apiece of driftwood before checking it throughly for hiding plecos NEVER build a tank without enough supports unless you want a bow front glass NEVER get distracted when syphoning and then wonder why yr fish are doing the high jump on the gravel and the floor is now a swimming pool NEVER expect an overflow pipe to NEVER get blocked NEVER think yr quarintine tank is useless empty and better off with some fish in it coz you are NEVER going to buy any more fish anytime soon NEVER think adding hot water on the front glass then cold water = warm water .....= cracked glass
  4. superb news Faran thats awesome they are a great lil pleco great to hear someone else has had a spawn reckon you will have a few ended up with 29 out of my spawning go heres hoping you do the same huh
  5. yeah excellent news !!! i think there is a thread by catbrat on such a breeding might pay to have a look at that or pmhim for info and here i thought i was the onlyone with a pair again excellent news and congrads
  6. yep i hate chemicals avoid them where you can ..heres a thought all the recent rain can stir up different values in yr water making it harder orsofter depending on where you are lowering gh and also raising mineral content be aware of this esp with all the flooding recently itmay have come right by now buttest yr tap water to make sure
  7. welcome pommy fella nup we call ya poms here too

    Phew! made it!

welcome hoon opps hoody (hoon was my reputation) anyway welcome to the forum 8)
  9. jusy recieved fish from courier post and must say they were great .. the box was clearly labellled " live tropical fish " "this way up " and "do not chill " when we rang to find out where they were they did a track and trace and kept us up to date even rang us about an hour later to tell us they were like 5 minutes away ...and five minutes later they were here ... great service ... a little note do label clearly like stated above and get a track and trace number so in the event of a mishap at least you know where they are also a track and trace shows the courier they need to know where they are at all times in case you want to know ...sound silly but my brother used to be a courier and i have seen what happens at the depot In my experience expect 18 -20 hours before you start panicking esp if coming from say Auck- Wellington mine arrived in about 22 hours but the fish were fine and well pakaged too
  10. then she may lay but IMO she is still a little young but that hasnt stopped them at that size before
  11. i agree what the male is trying to do is coax the female to the cave by fanning strange but true because as the female gets close you may observe the male chasing her away this is all part of his plan then one morning you will wake up to eggs definetly a slightly colder water change or a big water change will help trigger them off but also be aware that yr female may still be a bit younger and not quite at breeding stage thou i doubt it you didnt actually state her size ... dont worry if no eggs thou as males do reguraly fann as a spawning behaviour even without the presence of females so he may just be wishful thinking but definetly normal behaviour
  12. treat almost exactly the same as WCMM tank size app 2ft but can gp smller depending on breeding colony size (how many )
  13. what about port hoplos? great cleaneruppers ,decent size non aggresive but cant be eaten either
  14. sure dimebag ill add you to the list lol
  15. yep awesome thanks hans still have about twenty or so well i can count around 15 at a time but im sure theres more the parents went into spawning again last week but didnt quite pull it off ( no eggs ) think it might be the babies coz they were in the cave and all over the place reckon they are around 2 inches in size now so thinking bout seperating them from the parents so i can hopefully respawn the adults
  16. thats my bright side shane does it work for you ?;lol
  17. yeah if you can get in ok im still sulking wok i know
  18. agreed having bred them a fair bit and having visited alot of breeders in past i will say depending on where theyhave come from some can take a day some can take a few weeks to settle in if they are feeding and the water chemistry is as good as you say it is then at this stage i wouldnt worry a bit Some discus are grown at floor level tanks and so get disturbed at height and some vise versa others have very few ppl when growing so put them in a busy room and will hide for a fair bit and take off if you come near like most fish they take a bit of time to know where is a good place to hide and whats safe activity outside the tank and whats not change their enviroment and that process starts all over again but if they are feeding even a little bit then they are starting to setttle in
  19. hey stargazer yr pleco will be quite nocturnal which means you wont see him doing his job ..depending on how much algae you have and how big yr pleco is will depend on if he can keep up with the workload so to speak ..one thing to note and i will keep saying this plecos are NOT algae cleaners they will do this for you as a matter of course but do not buy one intending it to clean up yr tank thats YOUR job to maintain the water quality and algae problems look for issues causing the algae and not expect the pleco to miraciously make it disappear treat yr pleco like its any other fish that has no specific job and you will thoroughly enjoy it treat it as a worker bee and it will disappoint you try feeding it courgette to tempt it out and algae wafers that has wood content expect it to eat just algae all day and it wont be the happy pleco you would like it to be
  20. hey paul welcome to the MTS society sounds like youll fit right in
  21. mr pleco

    hello

hey puddle ..is the name reflective of the wheather over there ? lol nice to see you in the forums and welcome nothing like a west coaster to warm up the room !
  22. if there is a small white bar at top of tail and another bar (small horizontal one at the bottom ) then id say L182 but and a big "but,", ive seen six different shops all call these starlight ansistrus and there has been L100 L182 L183 and L213 so it is hard with just a head shot but ill guess it at this stage as a L182 but Blue and Kim may say something different
  23. you can nuke the courgette but i find it goes too soft breaks up and clouds the water just buy a stainless steel hook or bolt (around $3 ) and stick iti n the end to make it sink if not just wrap lead round one end and it will sink and last longer in the tank .. the males will stay in caves when females are present they may be fanning eggs you never know but the mostly stay in their cave and try to coax a female in there to lay so with having females now this is quite common thou if you put food in the tank and after a bit the males DONT come out to eat it is likely they are fanning as they will refuse to leave their eggs or young ...so you may have more than four BN in there shortly p.s and the baby ones are no easier to catch in a planted tank either
  24. tank set up looks good camnbron... yep the CF1200 is a good filter alright welcome to the forums discus that havent grown in months ...hmm no comment 8)
