  1. You have heaps of choices- other tetras, rasboras , danios and other schooling fish. Rainbows are good, a few loaches or cory's to choose from. Algae eater like bristle noses, and small cichlids like apistos' or rams Add a few more in ten day -2 weeks and some more after a similar time frame. This isn't the best tool but will give some options- have fun and let us know the outcome http://www.timstropicals.com/Compatibil ... Search.asp
  2. Perhaps we send a list to Tank girl- she knows all our addresses so she can notify us when we are to collect our share of the dosh, since we are now part of the exercise
  3. peanut - how does your chilumba go with all those bigger peacocks. Do you have females for any of you boys, eg in another tank.
  4. Sold the last of my discus over the weekend and they used to get something almost everytime I walked passed. fry and juvis - often as I can and tank a little warmer. Americans- couple of times a day on varied diet. I have plecs in with Americans so there is often a lights out feed. Africans- once a day usually, these guys are the easiest to gauge as their body shapes are great indicators of under or over feeding. I've seen so many peacocks dragging their bellies around.
  5. When I listened to now forcasting yesterday at 5.00pm it was peaking 88 at Tiri light- thats knots. I was out of power for a few hours. Had the generator going for the first time 'in battle' as it were. I need a few more leads I found out
  6. The next question is - is the tank repairable and how much will it cost? were you going to change the tank? Seems to me your short sheeting with resloution options.
  7. Big Ups!! to the company who supplied the insulating to yr House
  8. GBA being orange(golden) and these described as black? A blue eyed black plec would look stunning though. I remember the starlights were pretty unimpressive despite their hype. Yes a photo would be good- not being able to get one????- trader with hundreds of trades
  9. I don't keep mbunas unless you count demasoni and yellow labs. But I would be tending to the spirilulina and non meaty protein foods if I were you. Bloodworm as a rare treat.
  10. Bet he's got big fins!
  11. Yeah everything I read on these guys say they are carnivores and require twice as much protein as other bristles. So meaty diet with a chunk of zuccinhi a week. High oxygen content is needed, in fact they suggest RO systems, but current and airbubbles for sure. And 28-29 degrees. Would be great to get these guys going
  12. Well I've just noticed both your locality so I'd like to be the first to congratulate you on your joint breeding program. Please put me 1st on the list for babies.
  13. You might still have the odd spat over territory but yes a single sex tank will do fine. Do research and try to also find fish that are compatible in size and aggression.
  14. Very cute Kribensis. After a while you start predicting the movement of the fish and let them come into yr frame.
  15. I'm 6'2" and got no time for short arses. I know no boundaries -, gravel vac is 2'. I even own kitchen step ladders. Tank is also in a hallway and not subjected to bright daylight, picking fish who aren't big on the pooer's scale. Two cannister filters, UV, and internal and bubble waal is 1mtr long. My tanks/glass are always "half full".
  16. yeah you're right that cleaning will be more problematic but I think that will be out weighed by the 120 ltrs more water I'll get, and my hoses and vacs are almost commercial in size length etc. I did hve a 600ltr malawi set up with a tower of rocks with open water and they'll use the water if it's there. Combo of male peacocks, demasoni, yellows, and a couple of haps. I've got a heap of coral rock with Java fern and anubias that should soften the look and feel if I build up on side. As for background-probably black
  17. I like trios of gba's and commons. competition between the girls Bamboo caves or plastic castle cave have worked for me, Feed up and fatten at 27.5. no water change for as long as you dare. Then- 10% daily water changes with cold water and drop heater by one degree each day for 4 days, then return heater to 27.5. hopefully boy is sitting on eggs
  18. They went for $180-$200 retail 3 yrs ago. Know there are a few around but not sure about breeding. Seem to remember most of the ones I saw were males and not many females- typical for us I guess as they were a sexable size.
  19. L200 'Hi fin' is 'demantoides' a baryancistrus species like gold nugget which can be distinguished from the 'subviridis', a Hemiancistrus species that we get here, like blue phantom.. the "hi fin" is best ID'd by the dorsal and adipose fins being joined where the Hemiancistrus has obvious seperartion. The adult male leading dorsal ray is higher than female so this may be reason for confusion as it is probable that the recent imports of 'show" size l200 are all male Hemiancistrus and not Hi fins as some are calling them. Would love to know if anyone does have demantoides

  22. Wanting a tank made -AKL, who out there has had one made recently or who would you recommend. Current tank 1200LX400WX500H in 10mm glass. Want to keep existing stand. How much higher can I go without testing tank integrity- 750-800mm? I want to increase water column for malawi set up
