  1. Thanks a lot guys I am very proud of my new fish! The male seems a lot more active than the female and is too preoccupied with checking himself out in the glass to bother anything. My angel is a pretty relaxed guy and is still only young. I have two honey dwarf Gouramis who are males so I will have to see how it goes? If there is any probs I will separate them.
  2. Hi I have done some research and had some fishtv time and now I am 85% sure the second one is a female.
  3. Yea I had come to the conclusion that it was a male  Bumma though because I may not be able to keep him as he gets bigger with the gouramis, angels and guppies. The bottom one is very pretty and hopefully remains a female hehe. She is gorgeous and very outgoing. I got them from the lfs, they were so impressive I couldn't resist! What is your opinion about keeping the male and female together?
  4. Hi there! I got 2 beautiful betas and thought you might like to see some pics!l I was sold this one as a female? do you agree? Sorry that pic isn't the best! Lana
  5. Anyone? will two opaline gouramis be ok in my tank?
  6. Great thanks for your help! While I am here can anyone tell me anymore about the Opaline gouramis? Will a pair of them become too large for my tank? I have a feeling they will?
  7. Hi guys. I am looking into getting a few of these guys but want to know if my 160l tank will be big enough for them? Many people have told me that I should have between 3-5 of them in the tank? Do they need to be all females or what is a good ratio? And will they be ok with the following? Swordtail Angels Blue Rams Neons Dwarf Honey gouramis and guppies? Thanks in advance! Happy long weekend all! :bounce:
  8. Hi there, IMO the breeding traps dont work. Each time I seem to put a guppy in them they panic and abort. And i know its a matter of timing but being a beginner with them I found it very difficult. I set up a small tank with java moss, indian fern and lots of places to hide. As soon as u see fry take the mum out! I hope it works for you! Lana

    Damaged Fin

ok so the males fin has improved alot but now looks to have a small nick out of his tail? The female is out and about a lot but the male is hiding low in the tank in the plants? I chased him out and he looks fine to me? Is he ok?
  10. Often a fish will become the 'victim' in a tank. I had a male swordtail that began to be picked on my another male sword and when he showed signs of weakness the others started to bully him too. If u do put him back in make sure he is healthy and that u keep an eye on him. Good luck with him!!!

    Damaged Fin

Thanks guys, Yea I thought the same, have done a 20% water change and tested water which is really good. He is still a hungry boy so I think he should be fine. Its not bothering him at all just his worried mum hehe. They are getting pretty snappy at the mo and the female has coloured up really well so u never know! Thanks again!

    Damaged Fin

Hi guys, my Beautiful Blue Ram seems to have damaged his fin. I dont think anyone in the tank would have done it unless it was my golden Zebra loach? or could the female (who is ready to spawn) have had enough of his pestering. Will this heal alone?
  13. great thanks, will the angels pick on them when they get big or with the gouramis just become timid?
  14. Hi guys, I'm curious for any info on these little fellas, what kind of care do they require in your experience and who can they live with. I have 2 small angels, 2 honey dwarf gouramis, 10 neons, 2 swordtails, 2 rams, and a pleco. Would they be okay in my tank. I am working on a highly planted tank (they are growing) and will have plenty of places to hide. How many do you need to keep them happy and how can I sex them? Thanks again guys :bounce:

    Fluval 303

Hey guys, Need some help here. Just bought a new tank and it came with a fluval 303. prob is i have no idea how the hoses run to the tank. do you just jam the hoses into the water? not sure as it has a spraybar and what seems to be an intake pipe but neither have anywhere to sit inside the light hood. can anyone post a pic of how the hoses etc. are set in the tank? Thanks alot!
  18. Thanks heaps guys!!! I'm going to have a look at it today and see if It is what we are looking for! Thanks again! p.s YAY it's Friday!
  19. Thanks guys, Does it matter that this filter has been used on a turtle tank? BTW does anyone know anything about the Aqua One 830's? Y doesn't this model have a internal filter?
  20. Hey this is a newbie question with these? I'm looking at a tank Aqua One 830 with a older fluval 303 external filter. It needs new hoses, are they hard to get? how much will it cost to get it running? Do many people use these? Ive never had an external filter what do I need to know? How much would a brand new filter for a 145l tank cost? Thanks heaps and sorry for all the questions! Lana p.s it has been used on a turtle tank a long time ago will this be a problem?
  21. Unless you have a silly one like mine who loves to swim up and down the tank checking out his fellow tank mates.
  22. Ive lost hundreds of dollars in fish and treatments and not to mention I'm losing my patience and enthusiasm for the fish. I really just want to help them. I love having them and really am trying to do my best with them but I can't think of much else?
  23. It's white poo. I have gouramis, swords, barbs, angels, plecos and a loach. Well I have only been able to use formalin and malachite green as no one will sell me anything else. I dont know where to go from here. I'm the only one who seems to have probs of this kind. I cant afford to continue this much longer on a students budget.
  24. Sorry guys but Ive got probs AGAIN Ive noticed stringy poo again and want to strip the tank and remove any fish with it. Ive tried treatments and to no avail. If the fish don't have symptoms (stringy poo) are they not infected? If I strip the tank and put those who appear healthy back in is it likely to just continue? Lana
  25. oh ok wow thanks. I'll keep a close eye on them. Thanks a lot. Its local supply but is low in chlorine and has been fine in the past? Does anyone in Hamilton have some filter wool and stones they could kindly loan to me? I am willing to pay for any replacements required? I am able to pick up from hamilton, cambridge or Te Awamutu? Thanks for your help.
