  1. If I could find someone in hamilton who would kindly donate some filter wool and some gravel from a disease free and cycled tank could I put the fish in much faster?
  2. Hey guys I give up trying to fight what ever it is I have and am going to strip the tank and start again. Ive set up a bare bottom tank with a filter from another established tank and a heater. it is about 29l. If I completely strip my main tank and boil everything and set it up again how long until I can add fish again? Will a 29L tank be ok for the following until they can go back into the main tank? 1 Rainbow shark 2 dwarf gouramis 2 small angels 4 cherry barbs 2 swordtails 1 zebra loach 1 redspot plec (Still small) 1 small bristlenose I will keep up daily water changes to try and keep levels down. Thanks in advance Lana
  3. Hi, I've done some research and this seems to fit? http://www.fishdoc.co.uk/disease/gill%20disease.htm I have loaches and plecs so I can't use salt? Anyother ideas other than daily water changes? Malafix? Has anyone had any experience with this? Thanks for all your help so far.
  4. If I set up a barebottom tank 45x25x25 cm tank and put my two small angels, 2 dwarf gouramis, 4 charry barbs, 1 zebra loach, 1 small red spot and one small bristlenose, one rainbow shark and 2 swordtails in it would they be ok with plants and caves until my main tank cycled?
  5. no it isn't the only one, but it is pale and spiralling. I lost the Golden algae eater this morning with the same kind of symptoms. My swordtails seem a little lethargic and one is gasping at the surface?
  6. Yea I know sorry Caryl. any advice? is it worth setting up a temp tank?
  7. sorry guys something it up with my image hoster? It usually works? Please any advice would be muchly appreciated!
  8. Here is a pic of one of the very sick fish It isn't pretty so please don't click on the link if you don't want to see it. http://img3.freeimagehosting.net/image. ... 9d81d1.jpg I could set up another tank using the water from the main tank and add the heater and a filter from a smaller tank. This would allow me to completely strip the main tank and let it dry in the sun and set it up. How long would a tank with plants etc take to cycle? Do you think this is excessive? Will they be ok in the newly set up tank? If I use the filter and water and plants from their existing plants? Please guys I need help today so I can get this sorted before going back to work. Lana
  9. No sorry I couldn't get into town and now i've done a big water change? Is it worth still testing? The fish seem Lethargic and one of them seems to have a deformed head? Please don't tell me its hex? I'll try to get a pic up asap.
  10. Hi there, I added 7 fish over a few weeks to my 160l tank. I have cherry barbs, angels, dwarf gouramis, 1 redspot, 1 bristlenose, one loach, one rainbow shark.... I think thats it?? oh and a pair of sword tails. I have a fully covered tank and no toxins sprayed in the house. I will do water change, gravel vac and get water tested, was fine not that long ago? Below is a pic of my poor algae eater and one of the male cherry barbs...
  11. I thought I had it cracked with no deaths in the tank for some time. I went about restocking the tank when my water was given the all clear. BUT now my Golden algae eater is no good at all. He has lost some of his colour, seems to have lost his balance and spirals when he swims. His eyes have become very dark and his gills are quite red? Any ideas guys? I cant bear to lose my tank again? This is my last shot as finance wont allow me to start again. Thanks in advance. Lana
  12. Hey I'm a newbie too and have had a few experiences with white spot. It is something that you introduce to the tank through fish (That I know of) The best way to avoid it is to carefully select fish and check all the fish in that tank for any signs of illness. If possible a small quarantine tank is perfect so you can keep an eye on new fish to watch that they don't develop anything? But I am sure someone with more exp will be able to help more. White spot can be very annoying and is fairly common.

  14. Yea he swims around a lot and loves to school with the barbs. Its fun to watch as it doesn't look that normal! :bounce:
  15. The feeding blocks work but NOT if you have bottom feeders IMO. I lost 2 plecos that got something nasty out of the block. Which doesn't say much for the block but if there is no other option I would say a feeding block would be better than no feed at all.
  16. Hey I was doing a little research and found this? Botia histrionica Common Names: Burmese Loach Gold Zebra Loach Temperament: Peaceful; Can be kept singly or in groups (6 being optimum), in groups heirarchy established by size, disputes can be fierce until established. May swim with barbs species if in aquarium. A very peaceful fish with other species. So I shouldn't get more to keep him company? And they are right, he does swim with my barbs its pretty cute. Him and my algae eater seem to be very friendly!
  17. Yip there is only one and he seems fine. My ph is around 7 anyway maybe 6.9 so that should suit most of them. Thanks guys
  18. as tank has been unsettled i didnt want to add too many new fish but will look into anothewr zebra loach in time. The cichlid seems happy enough in the tank and seems fairly placid on his lonesome. we wont be adding anymore to the tank as we were told they will just fight. Seemed ok in the community tank he was in when we bought him. Thanks for advice though, will look into his required water conditions etc.
  19. Hey guys, I went to Hollywood Fish Farm today!!! I got a pair of Honey Dwarf Gouramis, A golden zebra Loach (I know but I couldn't resist) and a brichardi? (Sp?) Does anyone know anything much about these guys? Thanks
  20. I was told that the rainbow was fairly quiet? he is great at the moment! If I make sure that the kribs have plenty of hiding places and a well planted cave I was told they would be fine together?
  21. yea i agree! the bottom is filled well? If I add a pair of Kribs, pair of dwarf gouramis and a pair of rams will it be over stocked?
  22. I def want a pair of kribs! I will research others thanks guys!
  23. hmmm $1000 might be a little bit expensive for a student? Do you think my tank will be over stocked?
  24. mmmm zebra plecos.... might have to do some research? will they be ok with my plecos?
  25. Yea, one day I will set up a other tank but for now a community suits me fine.
