  1. Hi all, I'm looking to set up a smaller tank with a male fighter and was thinking about getting a few threadfin rainbows to keep him company. Can you see any problems with this? Also, I don't intend on breeding these guys so wanted to know if a group of males would be okay? Thanks in advance! Lana

    The clan!

Np Stereotaxic it's fine. They do look awesome I really like them and have two in the tank, too young for breeding yet but who knows? They are getting more and more common here and yes the price is reflecting that.

    The clan!

Thanks all, Yea the cockatoo is gorgeous! I'm not breeding at the moment and this boy only has one female currently. He will be getting at least two more females soon. I would love to breed them as they are awesome fish! He is currently in a community tank with an effective loach and an angel so not much hope in their current situation!

    The clan!

Hi all, just thought I would share a few pics I took today. GBA doing what GBA"S do best... Some one is ready for bed... My BN Enjoy!
  5. Have you put any potted plants into your tank recently? I know this seems irrelevant but we had exactly the same problem as you are having. We had two potted hairgrass plants and we believe that they were housing the parasites in the foam around the bottom. On inspection of the foam we found a whole lot of worms and gunk. We tried metro and prazi to no avail but when we removed these plants the fish recovered and we lost no more (i must also mention that we completely stripped tank, boiled substrate and just hoped fish would make it). Just an idea anyway..
  6. awesome thanks heaps! A year is plenty of time!
  7. yea he is thinking of selling the sharks, as for the brichardi they were born and raised in a similar setup, and while in hollywoods the other day we noticed they have some in a planted tank and they are happy as larry!
  8. Hi all My partner has a 140l tank and is still deciding what to do with it. Currently in it is 2 brichardi and a lonely male cockatoo 2 bn's and 3 silver sharks plus 2 angels. He is thinking of adding a young gold severum and keeping him for a while... If we get one about 3-4cm how long till he gets too big for the tank and will the other occupants be an issue? What size tank will he need in the long run? Thanks
  9. Hey all, well..... I'm a sucker... I was at jansens in Auckland and fell in love with a red male crowntail. He is a very impressive fish and I couldn't walk past this one. I am currently trying to rearrange my tank and give him his own Aqua One 380 but would like to know if he could have any tank mates and if so what? Would he be ok with a small barb ie checker barbs? or cherry barbs? and a cory or two? As I have limited space all my tanks are display tanks and I like to keep them colourful busy (not over stocked just busy) any help would be appreciated! Lana
  10. Hi there, Sorry to hear about your probs. I had an aquaone 980 that began leaking on Friday night last week. I managed to borrow a basic four foot from a local pet shop which was very lucky. Everything from my display tank was systematically moved, filter, substrate, majority of water, plants, drift wood and the fish. Technically nothing has changed as they have everything from their original tank with them, I have upped the water changes and slowed the feeding, just to be sure though. I have Blue Rams who are known for being fussy about water conditions and they are fine and my kribs have spawned in their temp home (typical). Just try to get the cycled substrate and the filter going in the new/hired tank and you shouldn't have to worry about ammonia. Good Luck with it all and keep us posted. p.s my plants weren't particularly happy about the move but most of the established plants are fine just the younger weaker ones have suffered.

    HELP!!!

yea filter is fully cycled and fish will only be fed once a day. good news is that the tank can be fixed and in the meantime all fish are happy in the spare 4 foot!

    HELP!!!

Thanks guys, Luckily for us the awesome guys at reptilez in te awamutu had a spare 4 foot tank to lend us for the meantime. Now have this running with all fish transferred. tank has about 160l of water and is being filtered with an aqua one AT881. will this be enough filtering over the next week or so (with daily w/c) or should we find another internal filter to put in too?

    Red Mouth?

Yea everyone else in the tank is fine, the blue rams are okay and i thought they would have been the first to pick up any infection?

    Red Mouth?

Hey guys, Our Black Line Flying Fox has over the last few days developed quite a red glow around the nose/mouth area and his eyes seem slightly popped out? Does anyone have some knowledge to impart on this subject?

    New Tank

Thanks guys! The first pics were only really setting it up! But I'll see if I can get them up. Which ones can't you see? No we didn't have probs with the sun sun at all we just wanted a larger tank and I liked the idea of a longer lower tank.

    New Tank

Yes I gave in! hehe went from the 160l sunsun to an aquaone 980. The change over has been successful so far and everyone seems happy. (please click on pics for larger images) The tank is still clearing but the power head and the extra AT881 internal are doing their job!

    Guppy fry

We have 2 plastic ones that have the divider in them but we will take that out as the mother is now back in main tank. I have 2 angels so netting might not be a good idea?
  24. fishtv

    Guppy fry

oh yea thats a thought? I have two guppy breeders, the plastic ones that float in the tank if I split the fry into them will they be ok?

    Guppy fry

Hi all, My beautiful female guppy has popped and the fry are in a large bag floating in the main tank with an airline and floating plants. I am doing water changes daily with tank water. I want to get these guys up to size to add to my community tank but don't want to set up another tank (I don't have another filter?) will they be ok with this set up? Thanks all you guys who know!
