    Hello!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey and welcome! Im new to fish keeping too and am keeping livebearers also. My advice~ make sure you buy good quality, young fish I had a disappointing start with imbreed fish and old guppies that would die days after purchase which does nothing for your confidence or enjoyment! Enjoy! Lana
  7. yea I have done a fairly extensive vac and checked under all my rocks etc. But I will repeat the process and try again. In the meantime is 10% daily changes going to help to dilute toxins?
  8. Hey guys, Sorry for all the questions but I'm running out of options. Over new years I went away and wrongly left my fish under the supervision of someone who didn't know a lot about tanks. They were heavily overfed and as a consequence I lost a couple during this time. When I got home I did a 25% water change and vac the stones to remove most of the leftovers. I then continued a 10% daily change to dilute the toxins. The tank never seemed to recover and I am still losing fish. Please help? I hate seeing the fish sick and cant seem to help them? Thanks

  10. I brought home about 40ish and only lost 2. Quite a few have been shipped out and many are now living in a standard community tank and doing really well. They are not slow when food is on offer! :bounce:

    Tiger Barbs

Hey Everyone, HAve had tiger barbs in my new tank for a week. Cycled tank for a week before they were introduced. Now barbs black stripes have turned greenish. Is this a huge issue or will it come right as the tank matures a bit? Cheers.
  13. Hey all, I have noticed that there is a small amount of black thread algae on my plants. How do I get rid of it? Is it harmful? I brought algaefix a while back and when I used it the poor fish didn't like it much! Can anyone suggest anything better? Thanks heaps!

    Hey Hey

Hey guys shaun here, Not really new to the forums as my partner and i joined a while ago, but as i set up a tank for myself in my auckland flat i thought i would post a gday. Tank is an ar620. I would like to have a general community tank and am just waiting for some cash so i can go spend it haha. I hav set up the tank with a sand base with a layer of Designstone 'misty' rocks. Sand is just ordinary sand from garden store. Now before i go putting fish in is that sand going to cause issues or will it be alright? Cheers

  22. Hey, Only 2 deaths to report and both were pretty small. They are now settled into a small tank and have caught onto the idea of flake food very well. I seem to have a lot of males and only a few females (The largest is a female ) I strongly recommend this trip to ANYONE!
  23. AWESOME MORNING! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: We had such an awesome time and it was fun to meet everyone! I never thought my hobby of fish keeping would take me into a swamp waist deep in mud, brandishing a net, and scalding my feet hehe We brought home about 40ish and so far only one death (may have been dead before the journey home) They are all in a small tank and seem to be ok? If anyone local would like a couple (and some survive ) pm me and we will see what we can do. Thanks again to everyone involved! Will catch up soon!
