  1. thanks a lot for all your advice - next question does anyone have a pick of the way their sump works (as in the overflow box)?
  2. if she gets the chance yes, so will the female guppies. Usually in the breeding traps the fry have a chance to drop or swim through to the bottom of the trap so there is less chance of this happening. If you want java moss I can send you some, will have to post it. Flick me a pm with your address and I can whack it in the mail. However will take a few days. IMO (in my opinion) if you have them in traps it doesn't really make any difference if the moss is there or not. In an open tank it increases the chances of survival as they can hide within it.
  3. Looking very nice. Mine are too small yet to see any colour although at this stage they all look translucent so heres hoping. Try as I might I can't see a pirate to pair with yours. Theres about 50 there so will see over the next couple of weeks when they start to come up for air how many survive.
  4. if you're not ready for fry and/or don't have the space in the tanks just chuck in some java moss. its called survival of the fittest and you will know that when you are ready they will breed again anyway.
  5. can you post some pics of how yours works as mine has never worked that way. maybe its not set up correctly.
  6. ooops - I'll have to check it out then won't I.
  7. Woke up this morning to a wet lounge carpet. My return pump to the tank from the sump had slowed down during the night and I don't have any sort of stop on it so the water had overflowed. Anyway on purchasing a new pump realised how badly the existing one had been performing, no wonder I needed an external filter as well! Due to the large amount of water now returning to my tank hourly I have put a spray bar on to disperse the flow as the poor discus were wondering what was going on. Wheres the best place to put it. Top, middle or bottom of the tank? At the moment its at the top, would it be better at the bottom?
  8. and I mean an elite filter (the smaller sizes).
  9. i was going out there until my sump pump died. Nearly $400 later I can't afford the plec anymore.
  10. Good luck, I'd love to have someone in NZ breeding them. It might be trial and error but if you win it will be worth it.
  11. I haven't had much luck with those either, just check that theres not a small stone in the way of the impellor. Baby tank (as in small tank), what about an elite shark filter, I quite like them and not too expensive ™ or if baby tank (fry) just use a sponge filter.
  12. are you sure 'she' is a she?
