  1. I like the look of the tank but I also don't think its a good buy. I purchased a 5ft tank with a rimu stand, sump and plumbing for under $500 last year and have since put in a new fx5, lighting, 6 discus, cardinals, fancy plec etc for what would be less than that. Shopping around (even right around NZ) and paying for things to be couriered will get you really good deals imo.
  2. I have some that I call yellows but they are more orange than the 'gold or yellow' imports you get at the lfs. Previous spawns I have had have been more orange than yellow. A lot depends on the angle and lighting.
  3. I agree that the top one looks like a L018 and the bottom like an L081 - not that I really know anything about them but have had a look at planet catfish. Your bottom pics look very much like the picture on the site. Either way they look very nice.
  4. I've looked up the hexy midi but still can't find the info I wanted. My only experience with tanks that had built in trickle filters was with a small jebo - about 20 litres and the trickle effect from a tilter in the lid was not suitable for keeping male betta in it as the water movement was too much. I imagine that it would need to be a pretty small powerhead pumping the water up in order for the water movement to be slower. I ended up having to put a sponge filter in the tank I had.
  5. mts - multiple tank syndrome - cause fish that breed rapidly or the ooh thats nice, I need it attitude. More fish, more tanks = mts
  6. Heres the red pine in my tank - its more red like the bits of it behind the cardinals than the other plants as they are right under the lights. By trimming off the shoots it bushes out. My tanks 60cm deep and I just break it off and replant it when it gets too long.
  7. Look under the Livebearers section further down the forum subject listings. Lots of pictures and posts. You can always pm them to ask.
  8. If cezarz posted the list he's most likely got a lot of these or even improved on the strains. There are quite a few people on this forum and what they have most likely covers the list.
  9. will probably be okay but will take longer to hatch.
  10. Enjoy yourself - I'm not going cos I didn't have time to write an article.
  11. Definitely very very nice ones around.
  12. My first fish tank - now 27 years old has gone through multiple shifts all around nz (and I do mean all around), has been bumped and is still going strong and no - I have not re siliconed it.
  13. well Phoenix - Ash T had to make sure the right house came along! Needed enough space for MTS
  14. Hi Jude ..and I thought you weren't going on chat as Caryl was away. Hows the new place?
  15. Looking at these makes you realise how lovely the country is and also how diverse the scenery is. In saying that I love photos of old wooden sheds and buildings and always have.
  16. A picture of it would help to id it but sounds like its probably bba - black beard algae. SAE - siamese algae eaters will help keep it in check as does dosing with flourish excel. Keep in mind though that when using the flourish excel not all fish like it particularly at double strength.
  17. Its not that we're ignoring the question - by the look of who is logged in tonight, most of those with cichlids are not here. I don't have a clue sorry.
  18. So glad you said this Aaron - it was even making my eyes water!

I didn't dare request that I was driven to the World of Water last Saturday when we were in Hamilton. At that stage my polybox was full anyway but I could have fitted another bag in I'm sure
  20. i got to st lukes at 1.10pm today and there were no car parks downstairs. When I left about 2.30 there were none anywhere!
