  1. My delta spawn has produced 150 - 200 fry, all starting to swim horizontally now. Dad is a black and mum is a marble. My largest spawn for some time too.
  2. Anyone on here going to the school balls this year. My two daughters went with their boyfriends to the Sacred Heart Ball last night. The younger one (turned 16 last Thursday) was a bit miffed that she was collected at midnight but the older one - 17 yrs went to the afterball and I collected her at 4am this morning.
  3. General opinion is that yes they can and do crossbreed. Whether or not the fry are any good or survive I couldn't seem to find out. Wait and see
  4. not many 1 x 450 litre planted discus tank 1 x 250 Litre male fighters tank 4 X 100 litre fighter grow out tanks 5 x 60 litre fighter growout tanks 4 X 15-20 litre fighter breeding tanks 1 X 100 litre guppy feeder breeding tanks 1 x 400 litre short fin eel tank
  5. lol Simian - you jealous?
  6. I'll talk to you - I'm a SI (Cantabrian) and proud of it.
  7. I'd also recommend the jbl plant balls - just be careful when vacuuming as you can suck up the released nutrients which may cloud the water. IMO well worth the risk though. I use them on my swords.
  8. I have flourish excel and use the jbl fertiliser balls for my swords as they are heavy root feeders.
  9. In my community tank I have 6 discus, 40+ rummynose, cardinals, 9 sterbai corys, hatchets, 1 large 10cm male bn, king tiger plec, tiger plec and chocolate zebra. They all exist peacefully, everyone manages to get food. I feed bloodworms, shrimp pellets, spirulina discs and tropical granules plus have driftwood in the tank and they are all plump and healthy. I just make sure that the food is spread throughout the tank i.e. behind the driftwood and plants so they can eat in private if they wish.
  10. From what I have read glosso needs high light. I have some dwarf sag which is just starting to take off in my tank (thanks Alanmin) that might suit what you want. Have a read up on it and if you want a couple of plants (spreads by runners) to start you off pm me your address and I'll send it to you.
  11. that pic is of the original dt male I purchased. The one I got yesterday looks like the one thats on tm atm so thats why I was trying to find out why it was called a lyre tail instead of a dt.
  12. My understanding is that all of the ones you have listed are in NZ. Mr Pleco has quite a few of them plus others. I have a king tiger, a tiger and a chocolate zebra all from him. There is a list on here in the catfish section with some of the forum members letting us know what they do have. The last zebra plec I saw being sold went for about $700 from memory.
  13. so I'm guessing then that these are doubletails from veiltails. I purchased one out of interest and it looks nothing like the double tail male I used to have. He was like a halfmoon with the 180 degree spread but with the split down the middle - this is him .
  14. Having seen these in the lfs in the last week does anyone know anything about them? It appears that the lyre tail is not a recognised tail type as my google search has only pulled up one mention of them.
  15. If you are lucky and with good growth, from about 11 weeks on. Be way however that sometimes egg spots are not what they seem. Slower developing males may 'appear' to be females up to 4 months of age.
  16. I don't know what it will be but assuming the fish is in a quarantine tank given he is new you could add rock salt to the tank at 1 gram per litre of water and turn the temp up to about 30 degrees. It won't hurt the fighter but might kill off what it is.
  17. How do you get on keeping the planted tank clean when you feed discus tucker (or are the plants a background picture). I haven't tried feeding it in my tank which is pretty heavily planted as I didn't want to foul the water.
  18. I've had mine for several months now and still rarely see them. They only come out later in the evening when its quiet and stay well under cover like under the low leaves of the plants or under the driftwood. Any sudden movement and they're gone. I used to worry about them eating but they are growing slowly. Mine eat the shrimp pellets and the discus pellets that I drop in. I make sure some lands behind the driftwood just for them. Yours will be eating and you'll probably need to be patient. They will appear.
  19. a suggestion - if you feed bloodworms don't overfeed them.
  20. A good guideline for heaters is 1.5 watts per litre so 100 watts for a 60 litre would be fine. A 50 watt for a 60 litre tank will stretch the heater if the weather is cold. For large tanks two heaters or more are a good idea as you then have a back up.
  21. Looks like the common standard old 'bristlenose' to me. I didn't think mine ate the algae on the tanks and then I took them out and there was way more algae about.
  22. definately delta - theres a few coming in atm. Mine cost $39 from Rotorua.
