  1. I put the hose in my fighter tanks to fill them - no additives, but this winter at nights I have been using water mixed from inside the house to refill the tanks. Last year I just used the outside tap but I think its been colder this year.
  2. 4 of the 5 in our family have had what the Dr assumes to be 'swine flu'. Very fast onset.

The black is a delta, the others are hm. Wheres everyone elses pics.
  4. Assuming that gourami look after their eggs the same as fighters then if there are still eggs there and the parent is tending to them then they are most likely fertile. IME with fighters the males eat the unfertilised eggs and the ones that fungus. Most always they appear to me to be whitish until the tails start to detach. Don't know if this is any help to you but I hope so
  5. what ferts and lighting do you have or use.
  6. Thats what you get when you live on the west coast of the SI
  7. Very nice - I don't know if this might help but in the local lfs I saw imitation tree trucks in tanks with the filter intake stuck inside them. It depends if its 'the look' you want or not. I would work in mine as I have heaps of wood anyway.

    Sore Betta?

Whats she is with? If you can I would put her in a tank by herself for a few days, add 1grm rock salt per litre of water. Is she the one you were going to spawn with because you will need to wait for this to heal up first as wrapping will make it worse. In a tank with clean water she will heal fast.
  11. Fish can live for more than a week or two with dropsy, don't know if it is that though.
  12. only if they are any good, otherwise they're going to the eel.
  13. or you can start your thread and then email me the pics. I'll post them on your thread for you if you like.
  14. and whats even worse is that the crowning is better than some of the ct that are around  However Ron - this is not my seeeeeecret!!! They are still tooo small.
  15. Agreed - well thats what they said and I would have thought they would know better than to mess with me these days
  16. If its big enough to go right up to the top of the tank suction cups would be enough - you could then remove it once the fry were free swimming and the male was taken out. That was none would get stuck behind it - they are incredibly tiny when newly hatched.
  17. whatever you use it will need to stick to the glass as you can be guaranteed that if there is a gap that is where the bubblenest will be built over it and the eggs will drop down the back. One of my males spent half his life flaring at his reflection in the glass but still spawned, can you put some plants or something along the back to break the line of sight?
  18. don't laugh - I purchased two veiltails - a beautiful blue male from Rotorua and a female from up here in Auckland, she was blue with a bit of red. Both imports. These fighters all show crowning to a certain degree, am sure its from the mother, theres no way the father could have been anything other than full vt. Colours range from blue/black to blue with varying amounts of red in them. They are all stunning.
  19. Just thought I would share a pic of my 12 week old males (or some of them) in their 100 litre tank. Theres 50 odd males in there ranging in size from 4cm down and probably 10 or so females all of the same age of 12 weeks. So far so good, existing peacefully, despite 3 tank changes. Keeping young males together doesn't always work but these guys are young despite being big fish already.
  20. I found a mystery fry last year - only one and it was a rummynose. No idea how it survived my serious vacuum efforts and a huge amonia spike. If yours have made it this far they're doing well.
  21. I have both and have no probs with either of them
  22. that appears to be algae clumped together. Did you wipe the bottom of the tank and sides to get rid of the algae on them? Just suck the floating bits out now. It will help get rid of it.
  23. Congratulations 'life will sure be busy now'
