  1. very nice - how big were these tanks?
  2. what about advertising in the local Trade & Exchange newspaper for it or try looking online on T&E. I haven't been on for a while but there used to be a wide variety of books in that.
  3. I started of with Daltons in my planted discus tank and then replaced it with the JBL balls as I have swords which are heavy root feeders. I do get algae (black beard) but regular - not every day - dosing with flourish excel keeps it under control and the 3 SAE I have in the tank help too. My lighting is not really strong enough to do a lot to help plant growth but it looks okay. The reason I got rid of the Daltons was because it made a mess when I tried to vacuum the gravel thoroughly, mind you so the JBL balls if you suck them up! I have a UV sterliser but have not used it on this tank as there has been no need. Its only really useful if you have green water and imo will do nothing on bbs or hair algae. It works on the water passing through the steriiser unit only.

    ID Please?

IMO if you like the fish and are happy with the price theres no reason not to buy it. If it gets too big and you don't have a tank you may just have to sell it. I don't know how fast they grow but it looks nice. Not knowing if a plec being sold in the lfs is what its labelled as has put me off buying many times in the past but from next year if I like, I will buy.
  5. you should enter some pics in the photo competition.
  6. I find ct the most temperamental (sp?) of fighters to breed and not only that 3 of my last 4 ct spawns have produced only females. I also struggle to find decent sized good quality imported males that are big enough for my nz bred girls. At the moment I have about 14 beautiful yellow/sky blue fighters at 2 1/2 months old and all are females. I have a few females at 4 months but no males (I have 3 sibling males) big enough to put to them.

    My Fighters

Delta tail or hm? What are you trying to do with them for the science fair. I might be able to help and then I might not
  8. Could be swim bladder - does one side of his stomach look slightly distended. One of my hatchets used to do this on a one day a week basis and after about 5 months finally got himself sorted out and now stays upright!
  9. Rams get those - all mine did and then died as well. That was the beginning of last year. Use 1gram salt per litre of water. She will be fine with that and change the water daily. Can't really see what the bump looks like.
  10. Great pics - thats one fat shark. I like the guppies too and the GBA.
  11. I do, but slowly. I don't find them that easy to breed and with a lack of quality imports its even harder.
  12. My older daughter had her own school ball last night. I was one of the parents at the afterball and got home at 4.45am this morning. I was really impressed, 450 teens and very very well run. Anyway here she is,
  13. i don't really know enough about plants except that perhaps the current from the internal filters is encouraging the bits to break off. I tend to just have what grows well in my tanks and if its ugly or not what I want or won't grow I get rid of it.
  14. what is different about the two tanks apart from light and by this I mean are the filters they same type, how much current is in the tank, have the two tanks been running the same amount of time, do you have fertiliser in either tank?
  15. as said above, a couple of mine are doing it at the moment and need replacement o rings.
  16. Thats very naughty of the petshop, guppies are not hard to sex.
  17. those are some ugly looking mollies - sorry but I'm not a molly person at all  the guppies - good pics but I think I like some of the ones in nz better than these. But its good to see what else is around in other countries. Thanks for the photos and all the others on the other parts of the site, you must have taken heaps
  18. I've got the odd one that looks like that - whether or not they come from the original stock I wouldn't have a clue.
  19. are you serious - its taken that long and the original pair are still alive. well done, fantastic!!!
  20. where in aucks are you going to be living?
  21. I don't know about the rest of the country. The schools up here don't condone after balls but at midnight when the actual ball closes the buses pull up. The kids grab their gear bags which have been stored during the ball in the cloakrooms or corridors and line up with their afterball tickets. The line of buses pulls away to the 'unknown' destination - which in fact it pretty much is. Seems no matter how hard they try they can not see the names of the streets and where they go to. At 4.00am the buses (about 15 - 20) pull into the huge local supermarket carpark up here and the teenagers (hundreds of them) emerge, climb into the parents cars and are whisked off home. Huge security, plenty of alcohol etc but most of them seem to have fun and manage to use some self control.
  22. My son is 21 - he only gave me 10 days notice about the 7th form ball. No problems though. First time he ever showed interest in a female, but since then .....
  23. My older daughter turns 18 in 6 weeks so they are two years apart at school. She has her own ball this coming Friday - all up its cost me the best part of $1500 for the two balls, dresses, shoes, hair, pre ball and afterball. heres pics of the two of them the older of the two and younger sister
