  1. I had a spawn a couple of years ago. I was away for 10 days and a couple of weeks after I returned I found one tiny survivor. I think they must have spawned in all the leaf mulch that was around with no one being home to vacuum the community tank although water changes were done every 3 days.
  2. Too late Skip. If you join there are definitely added benefits
  3. I agree that a better quality multibox will work. I had it happen a couple of years ago.
  4. Fully agreed. I never sell something I was given but if I breed from them I will normally sell the resulting fry, but in some cases, depending on who it is I will pass them on for free. No rule though.
  5. I dropped a lid in once, missed the fish but got my knuckle. 6 stitches later and you can now, about 3 years later still see the scar
  6. I have my tanks in a shed with a small room behind (the small room is about the size of 4 washing machines). The small room receives high light and the sun shines through the window if its out. If the door between the two rooms is not kept shut the ends of the tank receive high light during the sunny days although the sun is not on them. Without hesitation after a couple of days I get a green algae bloom in the tank.

Welcome from another betta fancier. What type do you prefer?
  8. Welcome. Enjoy your time with us
  9. Thank you all for the feedback on this. Its one more thing to discount and has increased my knowledge further as well.
  10. Yes, well it is, in vast unwanted quantities  . The trouble is that it wouldn't have been banned if people had not just chucked it out but disposed of it properly when it got too big for their tanks. However the other val you have - imo - looks really good and is a much easier to control plant.
  11. Grows in cold water as well as tropical tanks, is invasive and some of it grows to a metre in length. Also known as eel grass.
  12. Ignore the comment about straight val Henward - its a banned organism.
  13. Would anyone on here be able to give me a contact for goldfishman up here in Aucks. I am hoping to get some information off him (all good!). Thanks
  14. A sponge filter will be fine. You just need to remember that it won't pick up the muck off the bottom the same as other filters but thats why you clean a tank anyway. Just siphon any waste off the bottom. I tend to find that when guppys drop their young they often just hide up among floating plants at the top of the tank. You can use a breeding net if you don't want the young eaten. My idea of a good set up for guppys would be - plastic grass at the bottom of the tank, and floating plants at the top (plenty of plants at the top). That should provide protection for the young. And not too many other guppies in the tank to eat them. Others will laugh at this. You just wait for the comments.
  15. Josh - I'll email the article to you. It won't have the pics though as I sent them to Caryl separately. PM me your email address.
  16. IMO it will be a huge mission to find a decent sized female ct fighter. Good luck.
  17. lol Ira - this question was not for me personally. I don't need to stress over any of my tanks
  18. Copper Pipes in the house. Is there any downside to using the water? Thanks
  19. I don't think adding coral to your tank will do it any good. It will raise the pH to a stage where the fish you have will not be happy However, later on if you go to a bigger tank with cichlids and still want to put it in a tank it would be fine with them as they need a tank with high pH.
  20. I'm wondering if some sort of infection has set in. Certainly salt should help.
  21. I had one that did that for many months before it finally died. One side always extended but then went back down again. Hopefully yours will come right by itself.
