  1. depends what sort of set up you are having but I would love that in my planted tank. I'd trim off the smaller room bits hanging down and have it like a tree with the roots sitting on the substrate with grasses and rocks around it.
  2. Hey Josh, If you can get a bus into me I can take you and drop you back home afterwards. I just can't handle the traffic getting out to you and back in again in the late afternoon/early evening but after the meeting traffic will be virtually nil.
  3. How many fighters in the 40l?
  4. A lot of adult males with long fins do that. The long fins and tail make it hard for the fish to remain upright, particularly in currents. The fish looks perfectly healthy to me and most people with multiple males will have a least one that lies over.
  5. Nice The first thing I noticed was that yours appear to have very different markings to mine but maybe I'm seeing things
  6. when I ran a sump I used a very large eheim, it was in the lounge and you could not hear it
  7. sounds like they are conglomerate and if they are they will dissolve in your tank ending up as mud.
  8. I had a 3ft on my 450 litre (came with the tank). Got rid of it because I didn't understand the workings of it, was new to this site, didn't know the correct questions to ask. Do I regret ditching the sump for a filter - ABSOLUTELY. Pros Much better filtration Tidier tank (heaters kept in sump) Less maintenance and easier to do Cons Can leak (mine did because it wasn't set up properly) Can flood flooring (mine did because it wasn't set up properly) Some people say noise (imo only because its not set up properly) Would I get one again - If I could but hubby would really be anti as the FX5 wasn't cheap! Quite a lot of knowledgeable people on this site run sumps, see if anyone lives near you and ask if you can have a look. Ask heaps of questions on here and see if you can get pictures of set ups. Good luck
  9. My tank culture of daphnia is only barely surviving but the small pond I have outside which is supposed to be producing the green water for the tank is literally red with the daphnia. Go figure!! I think its the direct sunlight on the pond as opposed to filtered sunlight on the tank thats the difference.
  10. So pleased to hear this. I won't be telling you anything new Livingart, but I imagine he wasn't as pleasant to the person who took him as they expected and has been not so nicely treated. He will be wary of humans at first but hopefully will realise that you are not the person responsible for hurting/scaring him and will be happy to return to his mate, and the good food that you give him which he knows and loves.
  11. That is incredibly well said My hat goes out to those who have said they have a group of them. I am so very pleased to know that people who do know how, have been able to purchase a group which may turn out to be able to breed in a few years. Good luck to you. Theres always a chance that in the future these fish will not be allowed in the country.
  12. whoop ignore the above about the media - I've just googled your filter and found its an internal filter but its supposed to have foam in it, not wool.
  13. Yes, I would definitely say that the problem with your filter is the filter wool. A filter needs, at the least, the sponges and works much better if you can put in the correct media for its particular type. Sintered glass is what I mostly use and ceramic ...(can't remember what the word is). However if you do change it over do it carefully as the cycling will need to start all over again if you remove it all at once.
  14. Thats a good response from the pet shop. Hopefully none of your fish will become infected. It does however show the need to keep fish newly purchased in a seperate tank for around 4 weeks. Unfortunately a lot of people do not have a spare tank or know about this.
  15. what brand filter are you using and what media do you have in it. What is the tank substrate and is the tank planted? The l/h rating of a filter is when there is nothing impeding the flow ie when the filter is new!
  16. I don't know anything about goldfish but it cetainly appears to be internal bleeding from something. Maybe a haemorage (ap?) or google bacterial septicaemia. Hopefully someone who knows more will post soon. (Excuse my spelling please)
  17. The fish may have been fine when it was caught and the stress of getting it home was just too much.

    Hi and Thanks

Welcome. The whole build looks very well thought out and professional. Are you a cabinet maker by trade? I agree with Caryl - its great to see that someone does search through the posts looking for the information they need to see if its there.
  19. I would suggest that if you want to know whether or not they are from the same batch that you ask the seller. That is what the trade me question and answer section is for. In my opinion, from what I saw on Monday, they are not but then again I did not ask. They looked very nice and still relatively young. From my understanding they are not that easy to breed. I also would imagine that the last thing a person would say on a public forum is that they have bred them. Once again, imo and ime, if you want to ask someone something like that the best way to do it is in private ie pm or email them. If they want you to know they will tell you.
  20. Don't know anything about barbs but I believe that angels like deep tanks and can also be agressive. They can also grow pretty big.
  21. without seeing a photo of the algae I would say yes. I suspect cyanobacter (sp?) which comes up as a blue green sheet. If in the early stages you can suck it out I would do say otherwise you may end up having to use an antibiotic to get rid of it.
  22. Agreed - it does seem quick but I can imagine the sort of care and attention they get and the good quality food.
