  1. be careful down there and by the way - the police are commandeering 4WD vehicles for official business.
  2. I'm sorry I can't help. Have never used primafix, only melafix which has different ingredients. What about using rock salt?
  3. I'm flying down to chch next friday evening, returning sunday. I am cabin baggage only but if some one needs something down there that I can possibly take, let me know. I will be in the Bishopdale area mainly (where dad lives).
  4. Just had the news about an hour ago that a good friend of ours was on the 4ft floor of the CTV building and hasn't been heard from since the quake. They are saying on TV that rescue efforts there have ceased as there can not possibly be any survivors. All we can do is hope and pray. My heart goes out to anyone else in this situation.
  5. I hope you are all hanging in there still. I don't imagine you had much sleep last night with all the jolts continuing throughout the night. Stay strong!
  6. Thanks. I managed to get hold of him just after 7pm. He'd been trying to get through to me as well. He's fine, he said he had to hold on firmly so that he wasn't toppled off his feet but fortunately he was at home when it hit and not out walking. His house is okay, 5 ornaments broken. In the Sept one all his pictures came down and smashed and his tv went flying across the lounge. Bishopdale is nearly as far away from the main quake area as you can get in ChCh so he's been lucky so far. My husband said in early October that he wouldn't be surprised if a volcano popped up somewhere either on the plains or in Lyttelton Harbour so we will see if it in fact does happen. Pretty scary and the trouble is that if you live there you really can't just up and leave.
  7. In the bottom pic I reckon that the three of them moving towards the right are getting ready to sort the single angel out!
  8. Even if it was a warning its not as if a lot of people can up and move because of the quakes.
  9. I can't get through to my father down there. He's 88 years old and lives alone. I do hope he's okay. He's in Bishopdale so heres hoping.
  10. Not me I can not get on!!!!
  11. Definitely stone and water world - you will find all these and more in any quantity you want. They are well priced too, not over the top.
  12. Sophia - is it every sunday? Theres also the Pakuranga night market which has started up. Haven't been there myself but intend to go.
  13. Sorry to hear. Give up on fighter breeding for now. If you can't tend to them twice daily then its not going to work out at all well. You are still young so get something that is much easier to keep if you still want to keep fish, something that only need water changes 1-2x a week, is not likely to die easily and can cope with quick feeds. That way if one of your parents would put a small amount of food in on the days you are not there, the fish will still be okay. Otherwise, put your gear into storage and resurrect it in a few years or when things settle down. If I'm still around when you start again I'll sort you out some nice fighters to use
  14. Been practicing with my new camera and are starting to get the hang of things so heres a few pics of some of my fish to look at. The trouble is the camera shows any marks on the glass way more clearly than my old one
  15. I googled it and came up with Forestland safety in Whakatane - still a drive but not as far as here. You could ask them otherwise they may know somewhere nearby.
  16. Hi Stephanie (and Allister) Did the fighter fry survive the shift? They are tougher than people reckon. Is there a pet shop? Ask in there. Congratulations on finding work!
  17. I'm trying to use this one which is different to the one I used to use. Not sure if I am getting on there and no one else is on or if I am not doing it properly.
  18. Its the standard supply and demand curve. More supply less demand and the prices drop. Remember though that these guys have to have the time to mature before they breed, if they breed. I just think its fantastic that they are in the country - thanks again HFF - and that they have been bred here once again. Congratulations to the party who was successful.
  19. In that case just make sure your rocks are stable - what sort of fish are you going to have in there as some fish dig around the rocks. You are running a filter or have you adapted it to run a sump
  20. why is your husband concerned about the weight? Is it because he thinks the bottom of the tank may break or that the floor won't hold the weight. If the bottom of the tank is on a proper stand with polystyrene between it and the solid tank top there should not be a problem. If its because of the flooring then you are in trouble anyway as the tank will weigh about 450kg once filled with water and without rocks or substrate in it. Then you have the weight of the stand. what ever you do, make sure the rocks can't be moved by fish or anything else as a rock falling may fracture the glass.
  21. I can't get on to chat these days
  22. Thanks but its flown off! Wouldn't have been hit by a car as we are in the middle of the school site so must have got itself here somehow. It was a bit stunned as we saw it hit a window just before the pic was taken. I thought maybe a kingfisher but didn't know if they were found over here. Maybe its sharing the trees with the woodpigeons, tui, fantails and rainbow lorikeets that hang around our house.
  23. As the title says. At the moment its out near our gate. Can't fly very well, appears still young.
  24. We get the rusty yellow water if the water is turned off for council works.
