  1. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=46775&p=508759&hilit=blue+rams#p508759 heres one of the posts on rams - you will see on it my post about the white pimple on the head.
  2. And also to my gold and blue rams. The white spot/bump and then dead. No idea how to treat it sorry, but I wish I did know.
  3. I got my 1500 x600 x450 for $235 including a steel stand with a rimu casing and rimu lid. It really depends how many people want what you have at the time you want to sell.
  4. Very normal behaviour from cory. My sterbais are like that most of the time and even more so when they are breeding.
  5. I have heard that dwarf gourami can be hard to keep. Hopefully someone will contribute who has kept them.
  6. wow - built in the wall between two rooms? Looks great. How do you get on with all the light coming into the tank or is it not a problem?
  7. I would go with the higher current causing them to stay in the corners of the tank. As for colouring I used 'google' which is great for reading up on various information as long as you realise that most of the articles on it do not have a huge background of scientific data. It suggests that if they are unsettled they may lose colour but I am also wondering if they are different sexes and the male has better colouring. How long have you had them?
  8. I posted a couple of links for Sophia on diseases and one of them was columnaris. I don't know a lot about it except it tends to eat the fish away. Also that it spreads very easily so keep any nets etc used in that tank away from any other tanks and wash your arms really well before putting them in any tanks.
  9. I like the tank layout. I didn't really even notice the statue until it was pointed out. Once the plants have grown more and spread out it won't be as noticeable (not that I thought it was). I reckon its a good effort for a new tank. It looks heaps better than my first tank did zillions of years ago when the dinosaurs still roamed Can't work out whats wrong with a stick on thermometer, I have them on all mine, although on my display tank its on the side. Just wondering what is meant by an intank glass thermometer, are you referring to one that bobs all over the place once the suction cup gets sick of sticking? I don't know if you are familiar with backgrounds for tanks. You can buy them from the lfs and attach them to the outside at the back of the tank. Some people paint their backgrounds black or blue (black is my preference) by painting the outside of the tank. Other people either spend heaps by purchasing moulded backgrounds from their lfs and putting them inside their tanks or there are plenty of threads on here about back grounds being made out of polystyrene and painted etc. Backgrounds mostly hide the cables etc which are dangling outside the tank but if you make or purchase ones for inside the tank you can hide your heaters etc behind them.
  10. Consider yourself lucky to get the email. Mine must have detoured via Mars. Its not an uncommon occurance you know Often emails I send to Caryl take the long way round or disappear into cyberspace!!
  11. Thats what I was thinking after looking at the really clear photos of the fungus on the dead killie. I am wondering if it had a few nicks and scratches on it when you purchased it and this is where the fungus developed. Sorry about your loss Sophia - you are not having a good time of it lately.
  12. I am sorry but I find that picture in bad taste!!
  13. I am not trying to be silly here but is that actually what that is called - Veil Tail Clown Loach? (To me it looks like a fish with a tail that has tail rot.) Each to their own I suppose
  14. Driftwood can make a tank. If you can get hold of some christmas moss or anubia and attach it and encourage it to grow then the driftwood can look spectacular. Post a picture some time, we all love pictures
  15. Sophia - I do not really know but I am thinking Columnaris http://www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Columnaris.html Perhaps have a read of this as well http://www.aka.org/aka/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=1029 Good luck. It doesn't look particularly good.
  16. Your pH is fine at 6.6 - I am in central auckland and my tap pH is around 7. My tanks sit around 6 - 6.4. Normally as a tank matures the pH drops naturally as said. Unless you are intending to breed a specific fish with a specialised pH requirement leaving the pH to do its thing naturally is much better than high/low swings which stress the fish. Because of the difference between your tap pH and your tank pH smaller (around 25%) water changes done more frequently are better than one large one as it will cause a swing. With reference to your driftwood, you will find that it can leach tannins over many months. It all depends how weathered it is when you get it. Either way it is not an issue, water changes will remove tannins if you don't like the colouring you will get however a lot of fish enjoy tannins in the water.
  17. I use flourish excel and flourish comprehensive - I purchase the 2litre bottles. I find it works well.
  18. 20% will be fine. Take your ammonia reading before you water change. It will give you a better idea if there is potential for trouble but with that few fish in a tank of that size I can not see any issues. Water changes, if the tank is all good are best done weekly at around the 25-30% mark.
  19. I thought the chrysler and the mx both fitted in there, hence my comment. I was sure the photo showed enough space for two - obviously not.
  20. Welcome - the closest killie club members to you are in Christchurch but from the post above I see there is at least one person near you who has killies.
  21. hmmmmmmmmmm Do none of those cars fit in the garage?
  22. Would love a pic to see what it looks like
  23. Have you taken the hoses off the taps and put them back on again. I know you have said everything is screwed tight but maybe one of the hoses has worked its way up and has left a small gap which is not big enough to be seen by the naked eye but is big enough to allow air in.
