Where did you get that Lionfish? How much are they? They're my inspiration to set up a marine tank ... some time when I get money ...
  4. it was actually what the teachers told us to do 8) I got to wellington girls' college What about you?
  5. i'm doing level 3. IOU1 - atleast the animal and plant essays you can memorise cos the question won't change! I wish that level 3 had some of those wrote learning papers...
  6. Which papers are those? my school only does 4 bio externals - human evolution , evolution, plant and animal behaviour and genetics. 6 would be preety hard to do in 3 hrs!
  7. On my first day of study leave (for year 13 exams) i decided to go to palmy to pick up my sister  hopefully I don't pay for that when I get my results.....

    ID PLEASE

I agree - it looks like my giant danios after they've been sleeping
  9. They havent hatched yet :-? does this mean they probably won't? And I think they have a fungus.. how can I stop this happening next time?
  10. I read in my yr 13 bio book today that some albinism is caused by a lack of an enzyme which creates the melanin pigment so maybe the parents don't have the enzyme and the babies somehow managed to produce it...
  11. If your still looking for more fish I recommend Giant Danios (Unless you already have them) I have 4 with my small danios. And I find them an awesome addition to my tank (they get about 10cm)/. Congrats on the shark! I've had mine for 4 years and I love him! :bounce:
  12. i've separated them, i can see little bodies forming in some of them! when will they hatch? What should I expect to see? and what do I need to do? I've never bred any fish before, so if this works I'll be happy for ages!! :bounce: :bounce:
  13. why is it that they lay them on the glass? I assumed that they must lay their eggs on the gravel. I can take a pxt of them on my phone and send them to someone if they pm me with their number.
  14. Today when I got home I noticed that there are lots of white eggs on the glass, they seem to be separate (not in one sac like usual snail eggs). They are 1mm roughly. There are about 10 clusters of them all over the tank. In the tank I have malaysian trumpet snails, danios, bronze corys and 1 albino rainbow shark. Ive seen the normal snail eggs before and they are definitly not snail eggs. I can't take a photo because I don't have a digital camera. What could this be?
  15. I have a 100l tank in my room with LOUD filters - especially when the water level is low! I think that no matter how loud it is you will get used to it ... not that I know anything about sumps
  16. I took the meat out with a knife - it came out in little pieces - so i'm sure there's an easier way to do it.
  17. Thats a cool way of doing it 8) I had a feeling someone else out there would have done it before
  18. no I didn't weight them down, just stuck them in the gravel and they seem to stay.. always have.. but the one in the little tank has some gravel in it to weight it down (thats visible in the photo)
  19. Yup i'm a big ER fan.. not sure if I like fish better or not I've had the one in the little tank for about 1 yr (not really sure tho) The other proper cave I put in about 1 week ago. Stuff leeches out when boiling but nothing that i've noticed has come out while in the tanks.
  20. it's 100 litres... the shark is about 4 yrs old and probably about 13cm... It was one of the first fish I got and he's my favourite fish... who I called Margulies. Thanks for the feed back
  21. This might have been done before but I thought I'd share my idea of how to get a cheap cave. First to prepare the coconut. It is best to get the biggest one possible (I got mine from New World for $2) Poke the holes to get the juice out. get a saw and saw it in half. If you want a big cave only cut a little bit off, but if it is for small fish cutting it exactly in half could get you 2 caves. It took me about 2hrs to saw it in half but I'm not very good at sawing... Then take the coconut flesh out and boil the shell for about 1 hr. After this they should be good to put in a tank. If you want it as a lying down actual cave you need to put another cut in it to create an opening. I got sick of sawing so I went outside and (still holding on) I hit it on the concrete - there is a possibility of stuffing it up but it worked for me The best thing about these caves is that they are cheep, interesting to make and look natural. This is one of the caves with a bronze cory in front of it: And here it shows the natural look: (bottom right hand corner) This is another version of the 'Cave' (this one does not need an entrance hole) There is another picture of the standing up cave in my photobucket, link is in sig.
  22. I'm planning on getting one of these.. but I remember reading some where that they are ok in a 100 litre tank, but I don't believe them. VinsonMassif what size tank do you have yours in? I'm thinking I will have to wait a while to afford a tank for one!
  23. I have a 50 litre tank with 5 glass bloodfins and 1 male betta (and some catfish too) It all is working well, the betta sticks to his side of the tank and the glass bloodfins stay to their side too
  24. Not sure about the rest but I have kept them with angels and it went well
