  1. I got almost a whole bag sitting in my shed. Go to Mitre 10 Mega. Wanganui store definitely sells it so Palmy store should too.
  2. Could be Leeches. Be warned that once you add to the tank it can be hardwork to remove.
  3. Bark Bay, My Favorite place in Abel Tasman National Park. Where was that stream with the fish? Didn't happen to be in Tonga Bay at all?
  4. In the middle of Harakeke Forest behind the Beast of Blenhiems House. Behind Wanganui Prison. A year or two ago we had so much rain that the sandhills flooded and killed a few groups of pine trees. The trees in the pic are now dead.
  5. Àwesome. He looks to be one really happy chappie at the end. Well done.
  6. Sorry, I wrote the above post from my phone. Not very user friendly for typing long posts. In the Feb 2012 Edition of Aquarium World Magazine there is an article I wrote about why some plants always die in aquariums. I had images and names of commonly available plants that are not really suited for aquariums but are sold as such.
  7. You are obviously not a financial fnzas member then. I wrote an article on that subject just a few months ago. lol
  8. All of above. Lots of smaller tanks with individual heaters. Damn Apistos meant I had to seperate them. Approx 2 dozen tanks at the time. Then there were the plant tanks. And the filtration. Biggest problems was the heated tanks in the uninsulated garage. Add to that the heater running almost nonstop as well as a Dehum in Devins bedroom. We also have stupid downlights that are useless. Just turning the lights on was using 240w in the lounge. Removing some bulbs meant the room had dark spots as the downlights are useless at spreading the light. Switch everything I am not using off at the wall now.
  9. How often you say? Constantly. Unlike humans they eat for the most of their lives. They constantly filter the water. They need to eat a lot of organisms to be feed properly. Every time you see it open its trying to eat.
  10. Awesome. I was thinking the whole way through that you should add captions. Then I read the sentence at the end. As with the others I am jealous also. I would love to go to Peru, One day.
  11. Biggest bill I have had was this time last year. $650 or something like that. Attributed to the fact I had multiple tanks throughout the house and garage and the first winter with my baby. I have since cut down to just a few tanks and am more wiser about what I leave switched on. Currently my bill is approx $200, but that was an estimate and the estimate was higher than what my meter said so expecting a cheap month this month.
  12. As Sophia said, Plant the plants straight away. They will then be well established when you introduce the fish.
  13. Warehouse is having a Plastic Storage sale next week. Will be larger new range brought in.
  14. No damage here, just a few rattling plates and glasses, Tanks sloshing ( thank god for lids). Due to the direction no books from shelves, but they did move a bit. All I was worried about was it waking my Boy up. He still sleeping so no worries. I wonder what got damaged at work, if anything?
  15. Gotta love the "wellington " Quake that the news is going on about. Taranaki is hardly Wellington.
  16. Here are some of the pics https://maps.google.com/?ll=-39.331816, ... 5&t=h&z=17 The map link above is the location of the images. Rotokawa Peat swamp on the southern slope of Ruapehu The images were taken late summer when the plants were past their best. The black things on the last image are seed pods.
  17. I did write a bit and post some photos of one of my trips up Ruapehu looking for the native Drosea species. Found heaps. Unfortunately during the forum upgrade they went missing.

    Soon...

You sure your tank is not leaking? :sml1:
  19. You will end up with dead fish. Whitebait are the fry of our wonderful array of Natives such as Kokopu, Koaro, Inanga etc. The come from cold waters and do not adjust to warmer water at all. Let alone Tropical temperatures.
  20. Photo one is http://www.fnzas.org.nz/?p=906 Photo two is definitely a Myriophyllum species Not sure what the green one is in middle, Most likely a terrestrial weed that has mad home there. The third is hard to tell. At first guess I would suggest maybe a form of Ludwigia but it doesn't really look like that. Do you have any closer images of this plant?
  21. Highly unlikely. What would they be feeding them? What difference would that make either way?
