  1. So who is planning on or is already planting veges in containers etc this year? With the price of veges it is a no brainer really. With my son to be probably more mobile during the summer( crawling/walking), I have got rid of my copious amounts of water buckets and troughs that I used to grow aquatic plants in and will grow veges to feed the family. Today I got some seed Potatos to plant in bags and I will be getting some Capsicum seedlings , lettuces and tomatos going this weekend. Zucchini will be a must for the fish lol, and the usual silver beet, cabbage and celery. I wouldn't mind attempting growing some Chilli varieties also My Brother has a large section and I am trying to coax him into planting larger crops of things like Sweet Corn and Pumpkins and Melons. Hopefully we can establish a family vege co-op where we can share out our goods. Lets hope that we don't end up getting some more frosts. Would be good to share ideas and follow each other progress ( I find this encourages me to get more creative)
  2. I wouldn't expect anything less Ira. :sml1: :sml1:
  3. Im sure it was the Lost in the Box 1 that was here in Wanganui. If it was that one they had a few hiccups as neighboring houses reported suspicious behavior and blacked out windows in a suburban street. It was thought to have been a Drug house or something along those lines.
  4. I once created a carpet of stargrass accidentally. Using high lighting and keeping the tank full of hungry Rainbow fish. The rainbows used to eat the stargrass and keep it low. It used to then grow horizontally. I did this by accident really, but it looked really cool.
  5. Here is an awesome article about tank lighting and how the Watts per Gallon theory is today pretty much obsolete. http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/lighting/85667-par-data-spiral-power-saver-bulbs-2.html
  6. What sort of tubes? T8 I assume. With that lighting there are not many what I would call fast growing plants. You could plant Hygrophila. Crypts would be great but are not fast growing until they are well established. Are you a member of any club? or do you subscribe to Aquarium World mag? I had an article about low light tanks in the recent edition.
  7. forget the 2 watts per gallon as it means nothing. What is the tank dimensions and what is the light? . This will then give us an idea of what we are working with.
  8. Is that the first half of Eye in the sky? If so I love that
  9. Most people complain when they have persistent leaves growing to the surface. With any of my lotus plants I Trim any leaves before they reach the surface. Once it knows its leaves can reach the surface it only produces these tall surface leaves which restrict the light and make a mess of the tank. As for a reason they are dieing, sorry I can't help here........
  10. Unfortunately no. A lot of aquatic plants are fairly new to the hobby therefore are not on the allowed imports list. Basically, if it wasn't here when list was created then it won't come.
  11. And we will keep hearing about it. That's my biggest gripe. Having it thrust down my throat day and night. And the fact people look down at you when you say you don't like rugby. The comments I've had you would think I was a criminal for not liking rugby.
  12. :sml1: Today is the day, let the countdown begin. (can someone tell me how long it goes for so I can start counting down the days)
  13. I wonder how much the average fuel consumption has gone up in cars that have those silly flags attached?
  14. Ill be watching my fish on Friday night. I support NZ, just not in Rugby. I just dont like rugby fullstop. :dunno:
  15. Sweet, so Im not the only Rugby Hating Kiwi Male. :slfg:
  16. I cant wait till its over. Im sick of seeing everything Rugby this , Rugby that, and it hasnt even started.
  17. Maybe if this was in the Trade and Exchange section it may get more response.

    Neon Tetra's

Yes if it has gorged itself on the flake also. If it is from te food it shuld dissapear within a few hours max. I have had a few tetra that become eggbound before, this may be what has happened. ( Tetra do not get pregnant )
  19. Nothing in Auckland is in walking distance. :slfg:
  20. What Ira means is that the Thermostat only turns the heater on when required so even though a heater maybe rated at say 100w, it will only be on part of the time so is not actually using 100w per hour.
  21. Yes, agreed. Most of my bill come from the new addition to my family. Constant electric heaters, dehum, jug being boiled, hot washes with washing machine and all the other bits that go along with it. My normal wintertime bill is about $300.00. I don't have a proper fish room, just a room full of tanks with no extra insulation.
  22. As you say it is an illegal plant to possess. We do not want it to get into the waterways more than it already is. It is know to cause many problems. Azolla is very common as Stella mentioned. Go for a drive along the rural roads and look for roadside ditches. Im sure you will find some there.
