Cool ,I was hoping it was glosso, now im gonna go plant it in my tank and with the aid of co2 i should hopefully have a nice carpet to cover the ugly gravel. if anyone has any idea of what the pink coloured plant is id be keen to know.
-
Can anyone ID these plants please, i went to a local lake today and found these both were growing submerced. Is the smaller one GLOSSO.it is everywhere and is even growing emersed? the other is quite pinkish in colour and i only found two or three patches of this growing Come on you plant experts, Help me out,lol

Plants utilise the carbon from CO2 to grow, its essentially the same as a human requires protein to grow. co2 is always present in water and plants use this, but for those who wish to really make their plants grow, co2 injection is used. you can go the whole hog and have bottled co2 using regulator and solinoid. or be like me and do it the poor mans way and use a simple set up involving yeast fermentation to produce co2. regardless of which option you choose some for of difuser is required to aid in absorbtion(dont know if that is correct term) of co2 into water or else most of co2 will just bubble to the surface and be lost. ther are many ways to do this eg simple air stone works for small nano planted tanks, pumping bubble into a small powerhead also works well as the larger bubbles a smashed into tiny little bubbles with more surface area by the impellor, but IMHO i think the best way is to use either the glass type with ceramic disk(as available on trade me) or one of the many othe glass spiral, ladder types. so in short, CO2 injection(along with additional nutrients, adequet lighting) will make your plants grow , think of it the same as adding nice nutrient rich compost to your vege garden. If you dont want to grow plants or you dont have adequet lighting then it may not be worth doing. you can spend hundreds or spend under twenty dollars (like me ) and get great results, Each to their own.......... Anyone please feel free to correct me if im wrong as i am by NO means an expert HTH

I second that. Perfect for my small planted tanks because of output options. and at the price they are, much more money left for other more exciting things for the tank.

Cheers guys/Girls Hey cichlidmad, good to see another member from Wangas. At this stage i havent decided if im gonna get geo but wanted to get some guff on them first. If i do get them it will be a species tank, as i try to keep my tanks as natural as possible. Im giving up my discus and want another intruiging fish( i love the look of geos(little snapper, lol, well some)),I def want American Cichlilid. Pics of set ups would be good too!!

hey shadow fax do you have any pics of your setup? how big do suris get, and are they territorial, what else do you keep with them? Sorry for all the questions but i wanted local peoples experiences not just article about someone in the state or something else from google, lol

Hello everyone  Just wondering how many out there keep or have kept geos(any type) Ive sold my discus and when my tank is repaired i want to get a few. What i want to know is how available are they, what are peoples experiences with keeping them, stocking levels and photos would be great. the tank i want to use is approx 200 litres. Can i use Daltons propergating sand(or is this to sharp) Im also a Plant freak so was wanting to know if any plants would work with them, i asume swords would be ok if established with good roots??? Any comment appreciated

There is also one large otto, and a Skunk loache to try cull some of the snails. Any comments people?

Been a while but here is a pic of the plant growth taken about three weeks after planting. Unfortunatley there has somehow managed to be stowaway snail. oh well

Well i have finally got my plants together, So here goes The empty tank. Lighting is two 36w daylight fluoros the ugly green tank next to it is my wcmm breeding tank with an algae bloom. Layer of daltons aquatic mix, approx 1 inch Topped with layer of daltons propergating sand In goes the water. I decided to remove the wood from the tank later as it took up too much ground space. Planting cosists of Star grass in the two rear corners, A few bunches of ludwiga repens inthe rear centre, Three crypts (unsure of which type) in the centre of the tank. Several plantings of sag' subtulata in the front corners Finally topped up the tank leaving water one third from the top.( my thinking for this is the lesser depth will allow more light penetration, thus allowing plants to establish easily. and i will top up when i see the plants showing some signs of growth) I am just awaiting a filter to arrive of trade me. will be a elite stingray 15. once plants are established i will add a small school of fish(undecided yet as to what) and would be keen to maybe get an otto as i understand they are great at keeping algae tidy. Any critisizm or complements or even suggestion are welcome.

I came home from work today to discover this.............................. as can be seen it is more than one strand. If this is intestinal worms , what do i treat it with and where do i get treatment. he is in a 200l planted tank with his other half(girlfriend) , and a school of lemon tetras. Any comments appreciated

yeah ant, was a toss up between one or a small internal i was leaning toward internal as was eventually gonna set up a yeast co2 set up, and didnt really think all the air from sponge filter would help. regarding the poopy stuff just hover vac just above gravel and it sucks up the larger stuff, and the plants will take care of the rest. there will be far more plants than fish in the tank so i dont think that with the stocking level i will have that i will even need to worry bout vacs.
-
Cheers for the replies. the way im thinking is to go for a small internal filter. anyone use one of those elite stingray types, they look like they can be discretly hidden behind the taller plants at the back of the tank..???

A 50 litre 60 x 30 x30 planted tank Daltons Aquatic mix and Propergating Sand Plan the be a planted tank rather than fish tank, but will prob have small school of smaller tetras or some rams. dont want to much water movement but sufficient filtration. Any sugggestions people?

i have duckweed in one of my tanks and it has never really been a problem, although im sure either my discus or lemon tetras eat it.Ive never seen this but it doesnt ever get out of hand. i do have reasonable amount of surface movement and assume that this prevents the rapid growth, it only lurks amoung indian fern(at surface) and in the back corners of the tank. so until it becomes out of control its there to stay, and it looks neat from below the surface, me thinks that was my ten cents worth , lol
-
so it works with the same reason these things work, simplr really, hehe

just spotted this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bK5wg2tZ0U on you tube
