hi there the 1st two pics are of under gravel filter(ugf) a piece of pipe is missing , the bubbles rising up tube create a flow of water tunder the gravel , this alows the growth of benificial bacteria. the thing with red arrow is power filter and should make a wurring noise when plugged in, sounds like that one is stuffed, the other two items look like canister filters hope that helps cheers Simon

hi timtam i think bl means bad luck i went away for five days too last week but didnt bother to get anyone to feed mine as that is usually what happens. i just fedd them up the week before i went, then done water change the night before i left, come home to happy fish. they can go for a while without feeding if they are healthy. anyway lesson learned, i supposed they used the excuse" but they were looking hungry" sorry bout the loss

As I believe snails are hermaphrodites, but the cannot reproduce on their own, they need another snails goodies to fertilise eggs, the reproduction of snails is very grusome ( i studdied it in 7th form bio at school) the two snails move along side each other and them using a spear like appedage they inject their goodies into the body of the other. then eggs are laid and then........ well you know the rest! untold small snails :roll: :roll: :roll:

hi cheers for the comments i got them from nz discus cut he dont know what sort they are either, were refered to as apistos from huallaga area. I do hope that i jas success with breeding as they have become very lively now since they settlrd in to their tank :lol: :lol: will have to keep an eye on that web site

well that may be the answer. ive only noticed this occuring since i started to do more water changes, but with discus it a fine line dammit , why cant everything be simple

Hi all I have a bunch of Java fern in my disus tank that is looking like its starting to rust Its starting to get brown rust coloured spots all aover it and the leaves in the middle of the bunch are turning completely brown, its attached to a piece of bogwood and was until recently sprouting lots of small fronds but they seem to be no longer growing and the plant seems to be getting smaller as apposed to growing what am i doing wrong as this is meant to be an easy to grow plant it is situated in the centre of my tank directly below 3 x 15 watt fluros any suggestions :-? :-? :-? :-?

the local pool place here sells filter sand, is this silica sand? i had a good look at it and it is very large in grain size compared to the stuff on our local beach, its grains were like salt but bigger they sell it for about $26 for 40kgs also has anyone seen the stuff they sell at the red shed daltons propogation sand? does anyone know if this has any added fertilsers or chemical? i tried to email daltons but their email addy is non existant any comments? :lol: :lol: :lol:

does silica sand affect the hardness of the water. i wanna use some in an amazon tank but wasnt realy sure what it consists of, can anyone answer that for me as well, sorry not trying to steal your thread but it kinda the same as what i wanna know :oops: :lol: :lol: :lol:
