    Algae

flourish excell is actually designed to enhance plant growth, it has a side effect of killing algae.
  2. sorry, thought the back left plant was cabomba from the pic

    Algae

i successfully got rid of alot of algae with Flourish Excell, its a seachem product. Not sure if available in the US but give it a go. It took about 3 days for the algae to turn white & start to break down.

    filter wool

i pay around $12 for a bale which has about a square metre in it from my LFS. is that what you get?
  5. nice start, im sure the return on a bet that the cabomba will win the race to the top would not be very high.
  6. Welcome, i hope we can be of assistance when or if you require it. Smidey
  7. thanks very much, i will attack all in that order. Smidey
  8. Hi all, how would I get the best plant growth? I currently use Sera plant fertilser & Flourish excell. I do remember reading something here about an oxygen difuser or some type of fitting that would make the plants grow better but i cannot remember exactely what it is so I cannot search it. i look forward to your input. 9. Warren i dont write in text notation but the decision not to read their dribble may be excluding you from another view at something when it could be very helpful. i need to learn as much as i can so i listen to everyones story no matter how they communicate it, then i can make an informed decision. maybe with your experience you may not need the help but they are definately not getting your valuable input. 10. David Boruchowitz notes that the bloat may be an infection caused by "protozoan" in the digestive tract. He recommends pathogen free tubifex worms if you want to feed them these worms.
  11. I do not have africans but have done considerable research in the last few weeks so i can dedicate my tank to them in the near future. information I have says that bloodworms should be feed once every few weeks. it also notes that tubifex worms are often responsible for bloating.
  12. thanks luke for the lesson above. For me, (cannot comment for anyone else here) my spelling mistakes & terrible conprehention coming directly from two things, the painfully slow two finger typing I do & the fact I really dont care if i get it wrong. the time it would take me to backspace all the letters that i had already typed for one mistake & then retype them would mean i would never get it done in time to do everything else i wanted to. also we are in the era of "texting" or "txtn". I am 26 so was an avid user of this when it first came out so I just figure the whole world will know what i mean
  13. I put half the water & the internal filter from my original 30L tank into my 200L tank & put 10 neons into the 200L tank the following day. By the end of the 2nd day all of my fish (angels loaches glowlights) were in the 200L tank on the morning of the 3rd day. No losses at all.
  14. Welcome to the site, im sure you'll get alot out of it. Or the marine guys will get alot out of you
  15. no i havn't, i already had an air pump from a 30L tank so I got the sponge filter to use with it.
  16. I can recommend the sponge filter also, I have a twin sponge filter.
  17. I found that the carbon seemed (only my wild guess!) to remove the fertiliser that I use for my plants, they grow much better without it in the system.
  18. I have found it is important to get a happy medium between crystal clear water & bacterial health I have a 1900L/Hr filtration in a 200L tank. this provides very clear water but i do not scrub the back wall or submerged fittings, ie: the hood filter power head, canister spraybar etc. they do have small amounts of algae growing on them which keep my BN catfish employed. I also have 2 large clown loaches & 2 skunk loaches that do an excellent job of keeping the bottom free of excess food therefore maintaining a stable water condition. this may be wrong in other peoples opinion but my fish are all healthy with excellent growth & are very active. Smidey PS: a bit of algae on the back wall also stops alot of reflection, I have a dark blue background which can create a mirror effect.
  19. I would have thought the same but i soaked it for a week, threw it in & nothing came out of it at all. Its definately swamp kauri, I watched the digger dig it up.
  20. Does it really have to be "driftwood" in the meaning of wood that has drifted around the sea or stream. I used a piece of swamp kauri, it has been in my community tank for a year & no probs Smidey

    Schwartz Cory

thanks penguinleo, do you know what size they grow to? I may be interested in a couple more of them. Also do you know how do determine the sex of them? Do they breed in aquariums? Smidey

    Schwartz Cory

Hi all, I have aquired a Schwatz cory for my community tank. Is there any special advise I need for this? Are they happier in a group? Mine is around 1 1/2 inches long, what size do they grow to? I have a BN, two clown & two skunk loaches as well in the bottom end of the tank. Anyone had any negative experiences with these? Smidey

    Angel eggs

my angels lay every three to four weeks, guard them for a day then eat the whole lot. They would lay around 200 eggs each time. I dont bother removing the parents or eggs as I don't really want that many angels.
  24. Hi wagonman I have a sunsun tank 1000mm which is around 200L. I use the standard hood filter which is rated at 900L/HR. I have added a Aqua One Canister CF1000. These two used together I have 1900L/HR filtration so the water is circulated almost 10 times per hour. With this rate the water is so clear it looks like the fish are floating in mid air, just have to be careful with the currents it creates. Smidey
