  1. Hi all, I purchased a one foot tank & various other hardware a year or so ago that we used as a tester which seeded the bug for the fish keeping hooby with me & my family. i have tidied up & found a shark filter which has IP68 number on it. can anyone tell me how the media works in this filter? it has a oval "tank" on the bottom with a grated type area on the front bottom of it that where the water obviously enters a small comparment at the front of the tank & a round part at the back. this may sound odd but i guess someone that has used one will know what im on about.
  2. you could remove the the filters so it is solely a pump. i often do a 50% water change in my 200L tank & it doesn't take too long with the syphon. The longest part is often the filling, i have to use a bucket as the hose is on the lower level forthat side of the house.
  3. yeah i have done exactely what you described when i moved house. i got two 20L containers that i pumped the existing tank water out into then used the canister to pump it back in. it worked very well. Smidey

    Neons M.I.A

my insticts are that they are poor quality neons that then satisfy my lazy well fed angels.

the temp is between 26 & 28. If that is the case shouldn't it effect the glowlights to?

    Neons M.I.A

thanks for the info, i don't really mind them disappearing, only 6 more till a change of look with another type of tetra. what about the glowlights, mine are still very healthy, have not lost any & they have been in the tank longer than all the other fish. they seem to "last" very well. Smidey

    Neons M.I.A

Hi all, in my community tank, starting at the top i have 2 altum angels, 2 pearl gaurami, 4 serpae neons, had 10 neons, 5 glowlights, 2 clown loaches, 2 skunk loaches, a BN catfish & a schwartz cory. The problem i have is four weeks ago I had 10 neons, i have had them around 6 months. i noticed the numbers a little lacking just after xmas when I had a count up & only had 7 left. last week there were still 7, counted yesterday & only 6. We attend the tank every day for feeding & a general gaze on the way past & have not noticed anything odd. there have been no floaters, they have just disapeared. I guess they may have died & maybe eaten by the angels which are around 18 months old & about 3 inches from mouth to the start of their tail. one of the neons is discoloured & looking a bit shabby so will keep an eye on how it progresses. I have not had any other losses, just the neons. could these have been a weak batch & are gradualy dieing off? Anyone else come accross this before. All ideas welcome. Smidey
  8. Hi stella, i had a look at your tank pics. That is very cool doing a native tank. Is there much info available or it just guess work? Well done! Smidey
  9. hi sweetysmum, can you give us some confirmed details, exact age if you know, length & how active is he? Does he have a mate, has he breed before & what does he eat by the kilo each day? Smidey
  10. Hmmm, neon tertra reference point may have disappeared into the gob of this monster maybe. A neon could resemble a shrimp pellet
  11. You will need more than time, maybe an eternity & as spidersweb put it so gently, ALL THE PIES! to recreate this monster
  12. All of our problems are not Mrs Mugabe's fault, just most of them
  13. Hi snookie, just realised you are also in whangarei. would you be interested in a local club? See below link to the thread http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/possib ... 17955.html Smidey
  14. In biology and ecology endemic means exclusively native to a place or biota, in contrast to cosmopolitan or introduced. However, it is also differentiated from indigenous: A species that is endemic is unique to a defined place or region (in other words only found in that place or region) and not naturally found anywhere else, whereas a species that is indigenous to somewhere may be native to other locations as well. Usually the term is applied to a discrete geographical unit, often an island or island group, but sometimes a country, habitat type, or other defined area or zone
  15. at a guess & using a scale off my 3 inch clowns, that looks to me to be around 9 inches. Am i right? Although the height of it looks wrong in the pic, like a computer stretched image.
  16. i have a 200L tank & filtrate 1900L/hr. makes very clear water, just be careful with the current created.
  17. i would recommend extra front supports. Im a cabinet maker also & its all about transferring the load to the floor (better make sure the floor will handle 500+ kg) by having base on the floor, verticle supports that push down on top of the base (not like a kitchen cabinet where the ends do not sit on top of the base) & a top or shelf that sits on top of verticle supports. Add some bracing to prevent the verticles from bowing & you'll be fine. I recommend glueing & screwing the panels together, these will not support any real weight as it is transferred from the top through the verticles, through the base & onto the floor. Hope this all makes sense. Smidey
  18. then i think ilah that your male needs some shooting lessons on how to hit the target. im sure he'll be just just like the rest of us & get better at it over time. he probably doesnt understand her yet, hasnt connected with her true feelings & doesnt make her feel special. he wants to do his own thing so she makes it as hard as possible to please her..... damn, did i type all that out loud?
  19. I think I heard somewhere that the eggs that turn white are not fertilised, does that sound right? Smidey
  20. Hi fishlips. I think you'll need us to talk to for a while as i think your first off comments about "big mouth" will cause some silence in your house! Welcome Smidey
