Hi, you will be very lucky if they deposit eggs on something handy, I have been trying for a while to get my angels to deposit on a removable object but they never do. So far they have laid on filter power head, heater thermostat, heater power cable, inlet pipe for the filter, broad leaves on plants & never on the terracotta pot i have hung & placed in the tank. Good luck & keep us posted to your progress. Smidey

Hi, I have just had a look at the puffer fish forum. Without me registering there, does anyone know about freshwater pufferfish? They hava a freshwater puffer gallery. I understand that some puffers start in freshwater then graduate to marine as they grow but are there any that are solely freshwater fish. They are so comical looking to me I'd love to add one or two to my tank. Do they mix with other fresh water fish? Anyone know, I look forward to your comments. Smidey

That is truely awesome. I have a 3.2 foot tank which isn't small & to think that that is twice the size of mine is amazing, what are the depth & height sizes? how may litres is it & was it easy enough to get get lights to suit?

I got that grey oil slick type stuff on the surface when a few peas i had put in for the BN catfish were uneaten for a day, did a water change & it disapeared.

Hi northland chick, thanks for the info. it is quite surprising that i fell apon the parentage of my angels like this. How many angels do you breed & where do you send them? Is it a job or just a hobby? These are very well mannered fish (except when they are breeding) & even let my clown loach get close enough to give them a bit of a scrub before flitting off. Luck of the draw I got two males & two females which have paired off at either ends of my tank. they are also cheaky enough to give me a peck on the arm when it goes in the tank.

Hi, my 200L tank is in my lounge in the same room as a fireplace. When I light the fire on a cold evening the tank temp can rise as much as 1.5 deg by the end of the night without the heaters turning on.

Hi, there are 4 angels approx 2 1/2", 10 neons, 5 glowlights, 4 serpae neons, bn catfish, 2 skunk loaches & a clown loach. I pulled the plants out but was impossible to pull the alage off, it was a tar like substance so I pruned the plants & it still came back.

Hi, yes I did. Think it was 4 for $10. He was given them as a gift but that was also a few months before I bought mine as 10c piece size.

thaks hummingbird & amazonian, I have four which all convieniantly paired off so at the moment both pairs are spawning at either ends of the tank. They are also very good at eating their eggs.

Hi, below is a link to a picture of my algae that may well be common but im still in my first year of keeping fish so I don't know. Can anyone tell me what exactely is it & how to get rid of it. I spent $40 on new plants from my LFS & watched them thrive. Then the stuff that looked like dirt on my plants that was on there when it was in the store grew, took the picture into the store, they told me it was hair grass, sold me some "TLC" $31 for two weeks treatment, applied it & no change. i reduced light etc & still no change. I got sick of failing to get rid of it so tore out all plants, spent another $40 on plants & now its grown on the stones in the bottom of the tank & now back on the plants. So i've spent over $100 and am back to square one by algae the store gave me in the first place. Any great ideas? http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g183/ ... ccf8c4.jpg

Hi Amazonian, I guess with Sunsun & Mozoo coming out of asia there is a possibility that they are made in the same factory & may have identical parts etc possibly, do you know anything of this? Also i'm guessing with your ID picture you are exsperienced with angels possibly? If so can you take a look at ANGEL GROWTH RATES in the Cichlids section 7 let me know what you think. Smidey

Hi, I have two 150w Jebo heaters heating my 200L tank. They work well once you get the temp adjusted correctly, i have my ones set at 24 deg on the heater to achieve 27deg in the tank. I have only had mine going for around 4 months with no problems yet.

Hi, I have four angels that I purchased in february as very small fish. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g183/ ... angels.jpg These fish have grown well in the time I have had them. This pic below was taken at the beginning of july & they are 2 to 2 1/2 inches from the mouth to the start of their tail. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g183/ ... 54c666.jpg Is this a normal growth rate for angels in five months? A friend has the same type of angels which are well over a year old (approx 4-6 months older than mine) but are still only half the size of mine. Also his tank has more litres & he has a few less fish in his tank.

thanks, i figured, its such a simple & straight forward answer that I could not find information on this in any books. Sometimes you just have to ask i guess.

Hi, this item you noted is almost identical to my filter in the hood of my Sunsun tank. The pickup pipe extends to the bottom of the tank, the actual "powerhead" or motor has to sit in the water for cooling. The spout with the small clear hose to the top of it is where the pump creates the air bubbles (water flow sucks air down the tube & mixes it with the water, my pipe has a valve on the end of it to adjust how much air is taken which regulates how many air bubles are created) & water flow inside the tank. These are very basic & effective units although I cannot comment of the reliability or quality of that particular brand. My Sunsun item is very easy to clean, the propeller shaft is magnetic & slides out easily for internal pump cleaning. My unit pumps 900L/Hour through a spraybar into four containers like the one shown on this item so you may have to change the filter wool or media more regularly.

Is there any formular or guide to how much air needs to be put into the water to maitain the oxygen levels? I have an attachment for my filter (filter that runs through a spraybar in the hood) that stops the air being pumped into the tank.

I use ceramic bio rings. The store told me never to replace these & if I want to clean them I should only rinse them inside the tank & not in a sink as this washes the bacteria off. Is this good advise? anyone know for sure?

Ok, I have watched the snaked necked turtle for a few days now & he doesn't move fast enough to catch a cold let alone a fish. He is only 2 1/2 inches long max so he's no speed demon & he may get lucky if a tetra falls into his mouth. At the moment both fish & turtle have a mutual curiosity for each other including my BN catfish giving the turtles shell a scrub & my clown loach have a fascination with the turtles tail. The only change I have noticed with the tank condition is the PH has dropped a little which I have remedied with larger water changes & a little PH up. The only future problem I see is the lighting, turtle UV tube on fish??? & then finding tubes to suit my 1000mm tank hood. Will keep an eye on things as it goes along.

All of the above advise worked for my cloudy tank to

I have four angles approxiametly two inches long, they are mixed with 10 neon tetras, 5 glowlihgt tetras, 4 serpae neon tetras, 2x skunk loach, clown loach, sailfin corydoras & a bristlenose catfish & I have never seen the angels attck or chase any of them. However they do attack each other.

Hi skippy, diving in fiji sounds very impressive & it is a pitty you couldn't bring anything back. I shop at Whangarei Pet & Aquarium centre on Maunu Rd, I like the people there better. Let me know when you post a notice & if you get any replies.

I have two separate tanks, a cichlid tank & a turtle tank. I am new to aquaria keeping & have had a few problems with the turtle tank, heater died, filter not good enuf etc. On two occasions I have had to put my young Snake Necked turtle (2-2 1/2inch shell) into my fish tank. I understand that these turtles are dirty little critters (urine & faeces) & wonder if anyone knows how long he could be in with the fish before he makes the water quality too bad for the fish or whether it is possible to keep them together indefinately with enough filtration. I understand that eventually he will grow quite large, my tank is about 200 litres so its big enough for a while yet. Has anyone given this a go before? Or will the turtle start to eat my tetras? I welcome any thoughts you have Smidey

Hi skippy, I am new to this forum & fish keeping. I keep cichlids mainly & I would be interested in a club in our area. Think the best way would be to put a notice in the stores & see how much response comes from that, not sure just an idea. Let me know what you think. Smidey

It sounds like the quality of the tanks depend on when they are imported, who is importing them & which model you purchase. Note all these negative & postive comments & check the tank before purchasing for the hardware or fittings it has. My complete Sunsun 200L freshwater tropical setup cost around $700 including everything, tank, cabinet, heaters, substrate, plants & fish. The equivilant in any other brand would have been at least $1600. I think this is a very cost effective way to do a good sized setup.
