i have had a tree in a bucket behind my house for last two weeks, i noticed mozsquito larvae just now so put some in a bowl & tipped it into my afrcan tank. they went nuts on them.
& if they do you cant catch it twice!
I feed my africans sushi wrap, sera granumeat, blood worms, jbl novo rift sinking sticks & jbl novo vert flake. they do really well with the mix.
i have a 200L with stocking as in my sig below, do 30% water changes once a week (ocassionally two weekly) & have 2100 LPH filtration. I have never had water quality problems with my africans.
i have a 200L malawi tank & dont have an air pump at all. I have adjusted the spraybar so it adgetates the surface & oxygenates the water. I have never liked air stones, to me they look so fake & not like in the wild so have never used them. just my personal opinion.
if they are gasping it sounds like they need air, agitate the water to get more oxygen into it, if you have a spraybar use that or an air stone etc. i think its better to do water changes than flush your filter. what info can you give us? ie: filter type & temp etc.
see my sig below doe the species that i keep together sucessfuly. I ahve tried venustus (giraffe) & melanochromis but both were to aggressive for this group.
do the aquaone tanks not have gaps for "after market" filters?
the sunsun tanks have gaps at both ends of the hood at the back specifically for canisters & any other items you want plumbed or plugged in.
i removed the feeders for where the water enters the tank again & there is no noise what so ever. I added a canister to my tank to run in conjunction with the hood filter, best thing i ever did!
you could but if anything happens to a male then you wont have a back up, anything happens to the female your up the creek without a paddle to i guess.
No thanks, they get too nasty for the africans in my tank.
i wouldn't unless some really nasty behaviour took place. i would try to swap some males for females or just wait until they spawn & raise the fry & keep the females. that will take a while though.
