  1. Is this auckland apartment type living? there seems to many large fish for the litres? auction #159967427
  2. i thought the same. I must have done it 15 times now & never had a problem. The red zeb fought so much & got away on my once that the toothpick went all the way down her belly but no harm done. Its actually quite interesting, you can see almost right the way down to their tail. Basically, you need to lever their jaw down & pump the gills a little & soon enough you'll have a swag of fry in your container.
  3. i used to use it & it was very good. decidied itwas too expensive so now i use the cheap aqua one stuff which also works great
  4. we bought a 12ft "big bounce co" tramp off tradme. We have had it for about 18 months. The tramp itself is still in great condition but the pads around the outside need replacing due to the blue tarpoline type covering being destroyed by the sun & the netting is starting to wear out to. Our kids are 7 & 4 now & still use it regularly, i reccomend 12ft or bigger for a bit of space for two at a time. As for the netting, i'm not a big fan of it. We didn't have it in my day, i fell off once & hurt myself but i learnt alot from that & also the kids tend to use the nets as part of the fun & rely on them to.
  5. i strip at day 17 or 18. put them in a two foot tank & feed them heaps with two water changes a week. stripping allows the female to eat 4 days earlier than otherwise would if left to spit so they are better for it. some fish are easier to strip than others, my yellow just lies in my hand & lets them go. my red zeb fightts me all the way & my baenschi peacock spits the moment i put her into the ice cream container. i use a tooth pick that i have cut the end off so no sharp point. check out this video which is how i learnt http://www.cichlid-forum.com/videos/stripping.php
  6. could it be a change in diet or a particular food? I noticed my red zeb africans started to get dark spots when i started feeding them spirulina based foods. stopped feeding them that & the spots disappeared.
  7. there is an article somewhere on the net that suggest that all electric yellows in the hobby came from a group of just 10 fish from the wild in the 70's. I can understand this as my yellows breed far more than all my others. It is said that there were only approx 100 yellows in the lake, 10 were removed & are now possibly the most commonly kept african in the world. I will try to find where i read that & post it.
  8. thats no problem, its all relative. baby angels can go in a baby tank but as they grow the tank will also need to. if you intend to sell them when theyare slightly bigger then no need to get a bigger setup. I use a 60x45x30 for my africans until they grow big enough to sell at the store (1.5")
  9. i had three cobalts, 2 males & a female. The dominant male was dark & other two (1m/1F) had same colouring. Got rid of dominant darker male & the subdominant did not get any darker, just got more agro. Venting them is the only true way to tell.
  10. i think moreporks are great to listen too, i'd be happy to hear it even if it was 2am!
  11. its amazing. much better than any other theme park or skydiving or anything else i can think of right now. to get so close (if you go watch you don't get sprayed by a lion) to them is unreal.
  12. use a razor blade but bend up the outside ends of the blade so the ends cannot scratch the glass. use thinners to get any left overs off.

  16. why have the email addresses been listed like that?
  17. i assure you that it is in moderation. i have also always fed blood worms which most consider a big no-no but i only feed them it once a week, almost 2 years on & have not had an issue. i cannot remeber where i read it but africans eat what ever is available in the lake at that time which could be anything from mozquito larvae & fish fry to algae etc so i throw in a few different foods from time to time & they are doing well on it.
  18. in the last few weeks i have been chucking in some dinner left overs including steak, peas & brocolli. i haven't had any health issues, infact im sure their colouring has got stronger.
