    cichlid id's

the members on the cichlid forum have a lot more experience as they have alot more flexibility & is alot easier to import wild caught fish in particular. you could also try to ID yourself with this http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/index.php I like the gallery option that you can click on at the top, african genus or new world cichlids.
  2. no problem, thats what this forum is about. I feed my africans JBL NovoVert, sushi wrap on a regular basis & bloodworms once every weekend & they thrive.
  3. i bet you have changed foods in the last week or so? I had the same & narrowed it down to the feed that contained spirulina in it. it will get worse then take a few weeks to go once you stop feeding that food. IME it doesn't do any harm, just discolours them a little.
  4. here's is einstein the parrot, he's great! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSDFzg8_Wfg
  5. once they start "kissing" then you know they are fighting.

    Giraffe haps

i tried them with most of the fish that are in my sig below, it was a big mistake. they became so aggressive that others were almost killed.

what have you already got in your tank that these will be joining?
  8. & its not the air from the airstone that oxygenates the water is the water disturbance on the surface. i dont have an airstone in my 200L, just use the spraybar to agitate the surface.
  9. haha george is under 25 so doesn't know
  10. i jumped to conclusions. what is the workplace?
  11. aren't you sam's son? Don't you live there? See you there!
  12. how many litres is your tank & what size is the filter?
  13. did he get thrown into a helicopter & flown to hospital? its bad enough when i see my & yr old son thrown off his bmx bike let alone a racing quad!
  14. this is exactely what i did around a year ago, ditched the south americans for the africans & i am totally wrapped with the choice. in the next 6 to 12 months you will have ups & downs finding the right mix of fish. they will get big enough (providing you purchase juvies) in 6 months to breed, it will be very enjoyable for you. as for stocking, see my sig for my stocking of a 200L tank, i've had no problems with that many & you could add a few more. I do have 2100LPH filtartion in my 200L though.
  15. Hi all. I had the pleasure today of watching a sport that i had not seen before & i now love it. Im sure it's been done for ages but I hadn't heard of it before. I took my kiddies to the stock car track as they asked to go. I am a petrol head but have never really been to interested in the stock cars, circuit racing is more my scene. We turn up to the track & see a few racing quad bikes in the carpark area. When they came out to race they put all except the A grade cars to shame. they were extremely fast & it was alot of work for the riders to get their crutch rockets around the track. I will now be eagerly awaiting the next race meet when the quads are running.

    First loss

when i had neons I bought a dozen of them, they must have been a bad or weak batch as they only lasted a month before they all died. I had no other loses at all so was clearly the neons.
  17. you can get those massive brass looking electric coils for heaters. i saw one on one of those monster fish keepers setups (the guy who built the new house with huge aquarium under it then his wife left him & he had to sell or something like that.)
  18. if it was me, i would make a mild steel pipe & a pump to circulate the water through it. heat the pipe (gas burner maybe) & let the water circulate.
  19. put her in a smaller tank alone, she won't eat them but the others will. what i do is strip them at around day 17. while holding they dont eat so can loose alot of condition, this is why i strip at 16-17 days so they can start eating that much sooner. then i put the fry into a breeding net in the main tank & watch them grow.
  20. my lfs also has arogonite & it does not discolour either. mabe it has something to do with the hard water here. i have 2100LPH on this 200L tank which probably doesn't make any difference to this particular issue but it may do in the end. i did have a theory on here about a year ago that high filtration reduces algae but got laughed at. my LFS runs a sump on their 200L +- african tank with a big pump.
  21. its more likely that what ever was feeding the brown algae (nutrients in the water) was reduced than the light affected the situation. Light creates green algae, often over feeding creates brown algae. I have arogonite as a substrate (white) & have not had any problems with it going brown or green. I feed to a minimum, 3 small feeds a day. Here's a pic of my tank after 6 months i think, as you can see its still white.
