Hehe cool. Some cats are just laid back. Our old ginger girl is the most laid back cat ever. Doesn't care where you move her to, as long as theres somewhere warm and comfy to snooze. The others tend to fret though.

See I knew it wasn't a monkey. Is it eating chocolate?? -
I don't know about Chain or Skunk loaches, but my Zebra loaches did a fantastic job of cleaning up a snail infestation in one of my tanks. So there's another option for you, although in my experience they seem a bit hard to come by, then again that just could be cos of my location and terrible LFS.

Very sick turtle. Anyone had one survive this sick?
Southerrrngirrl replied to DonnaM's topic in Reptiles and Amphibians
I've just read this whole thread right from the start to now and just want to say that you Donna, are doing an amazing job. Its great to read about someones dedication to the care of a sick animal. I hope all your efforts pay off and Speedy recovers fully. -
According to our vet, it is quite normal for a dog to eat cow/sheep/rabbit poo. Its not so normal for a dog to eat its own poo. Our eldest dog likes to dig in the garden and eat the cat poo... Our puppy will eat anything you give her, lettuce, apple, carrot, cauliflower, courgette One of our cats loves ALL kinds of fish food. He especially goes nuts for the Wardleys Shrimp Pellets. Another one of our cats eats spiders. If I found a spider somewhere in the house, I'd just go find Willow and have her eat the spider so I didn't have to deal with it. Although one day she did it, then seemed to have an odd reaction like it tasted real bad or had bitten her or something, since that day she hasn't been so keen to eat the spiders.

New to FNZAS from the deep south..............
Southerrrngirrl replied to wolfy_nz's topic in Welcome
Yes, like you we also started out on the AR380, had it running overnight then put like 10 million fish in it. Including a rainbow shark. I did query them on whether these fish were suitable and was assured that yes it would be fine to put them all in there. Not surprisingly, many fishy deaths followed. I still shop there (only because of the lack of competition around) and always leave annoyed when I see mum and some kids coming in to buy a tiny little goldfish bowl and proceed to cram 4 goldfish in it. Yeah I saw last time I was in Diacks that they had a limited range of tropicals. -

Welcome.. how deep south are we talking? Invercargill? If so I am not surprised you got bad advice from the LFS. -
I killed one of my barbs too. There was one that had died in the tank, so I scooped him out with the net and put the net with barb in it, in the bucket next to the tank for disposal after I got home from work. I get home from work and I'm looking in the tank going.... "I see 3 barbs, wheres number 4?" (Cos I had 5 before 1 died). Anyway, I go to take dead barb away for disposal and to my complete and utter horror, there are TWO barbs lying in the net. My first thought was, one jumped out of the tank and made it in to the net? No silly, the tank is completely covered. I must have accidentally caught a perfectly healthy barb while I was scooping out dead barb and made him suffocate and dry to death. As soon as I came to this realisation I cried for poor wee barb. (I'm such a wuss) I'm still horrified right now. If only I had checked the net before leaving for work...

I have the exact same machine! And it also did this just under 2 years ago. I rang the number on the inside of the lid (on a sunday) and got put through to an electrician about 20km away from me (?) He said he would come out the next day or something.. the next day for some reason I tried turning the washing machine on again and it worked. So had to ring the electrician and tell him not to bother coming cos the machine was operating again. No idea what went wrong, maybe it just needed a little rest. Its still going strong.

Just wondering how everyone is going with their books?? I got given The Poisonwood Bible. Its not exactly what I would have chosen for myself but its actually not too bad. Trouble is its hard to find the time to read it just at the moment. Hopefully when I'm on holiday in a couple of weeks I'll have more time to sit down and read

Late 2008/09 Films. updated 26Jan

I haven't seen any of the above movies, but have seen Twilight. I read the book to see what all the fuss was about and to my surprise enjoyed it quite a bit. So went to see the movie a couple days later.... I came out of the theatre going, "well.. that was lame" but on reflection, it wasn't that bad. But I think it could have been done WAY better. Agree with the soundtrack too. Spent quite a bit of time trying to find out what the music on the extended trailer was. -
my flatmate loves coronation street ...

Why exactly do you have to endure these soaps? Are you like glued to the couch? My husband often watches the H&A omnibus with me on a Sunday morning. Quality time I tell you. -
Why not? I just paid off our $1,300 fridge/freezer this month. It was a buy now, pay later,x years interest free scheme. It was an unnecessary purchase, only reason we bought it was because we had just moved into our house and our extremely old fridge didn't match the new kitchen joinery. All I paid was the ticket price of the fridge plus maybe $50 for some sort of fees. It was convenient for me at the time, because I didn't have the cash lying around to pay for the thing. I took advantage of the offer and now I own the fridge. Simple as that. IMO nothing wrong with buy now, pay later as long as you are aware that you will eventually have to pay and pay it off before the interest kicks in.

New job, tell me your horror stories...
Southerrrngirrl replied to lmsmith's topic in The Off Topic Fishroom
Ugh never again I tell you. There is more to my story. Apparently (amazingly!!) people noticed that I was in and out of the seminar and that somehow got back to the CEO of the company who in turn spoke to my boss and asked him to have a stern word in my ear. I never got that stern word from my boss but heard from another workmate that he was supposed to give me a talking to... Hooray for easygoing bosses -

Haha spink speaking of stiff drinks made me recall a more recent embarrasing work situation I experienced. My workmate and I were sent to Auckland for a seminar/training course thingy. Being from down south, we had to catch a late afternoon flight to Auckland, stay overnight to be there for the full day course the next day. Well my workmate and I started by meeting at his house and having a quiet wine before departing for the airport, which he managed to get us into the Koru Club lounge, which meant free beer & wine. Sweeet! Then since it was the evening or last flight out, we were served more alcohol on the plane. Which was fine, all good fun. But when we got to Auckland at about 9pm, he suggested he take me on a brief tour of Auckland, since I had never been there. We ended up having a drink with the other staff members of the company from around the country then headed on out to the Viaduct. Then I remember having many may drinks several bars on the Viaduct, and I also have evidence of being at the Sky Tower on my cellphone. Eventually we got back to our hotel between the hours of 2-3am and we ordered room service. I somehow made back it to my own room and into bed. I woke up the next morning praying that I wouldn't have a hangover, and I felt sort of ok, had a shower, but once I got in the car and we proceeded to the course venue, things took a turn for the worse. We arrived at the venue, and it wasn't long before I was running, frantically searching for the toilets so I could barf. This continued throughout the day. I was sooooooo embarrassed. And they served morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea which looked sooooo tasty but I couldn't keep anything down. Definitely learned my lesson. Don't let your workmates lead you astray!!! -
I'd say thats still overstocked. I have an AR850 and don't have that many fish in it. Are you going to have a sand substrate for the kuhli's?

Southerrrngirrl replied to lmsmith's topic in The Off Topic Fishroom
Oh it seems my memory has dreged up some situations, they weren't exactly embarrasing to me but were kinda scary. I used to work as a casual Administration Officer at the local hospital, in particular the Mental Health Unit. I used to fill in for any of the admin officers as required and often filled in for the receptionist inside the inpatient unit. Part of the job was to let people in and out of the unit (visitors mainly). We had to swipe our ID cards to open the door. So anyway one day I was letting a visitor out and was aware of one of the older inpatients hanging around behind me. I suspected that he might try something so I tried to get the door closed as soon as the people had walked out but the patient charged at me, knocking me over and bolting out the door. Yes thats right, I had let a patient escape from the Mental Health Unit. I felt so bad. I immediately told one of the nurses and they quickly formed a team and hunted him down. Apparently he didn't get far.
