  1. Im here for entertainment value only arent I??
  2. If it is the same black sand as we have on our local west coast beaches, wouldnt the iron content be huge?
  3. Ok The filter survived the attack of the raging bull.................... My patience however did not    The freakin thing did not relinquish its stronghold on the lid and by the way, if you are wondering, the taps on top of the filter DO bounce on lino floors without breaking. AND E.yellows have a fantastic sense of humour! everyone else swims around quite happily while the 7 yellows stack themselves into a tower in the corner watching me, and I swear to God THEY WERE LAUGHING! HFF is getting a challenge this weekend
  4. cheeky bugger
  5. Hmmmm, thats what Im afraid of, I have all the finesse of a rampaging bull when things dont go my way do you mean the body of the filter or the body Im going to have to hide if I cant get the lid off   hahahaha, the bull thing comes to mind. If I am in control of the screwdriver, Im likely to stab the blimmen thing Yay, got vaseline. Look out filter, you're gunna get it
  6. Obviously its an Airlock that rivals the freakin cabin door on a Boeing 747 :-? Im gunna try again tonight............... Watch this space
  7. But when I mean its new, it is BRAND NEW, straight outta the box and the only contact it has had with liquid of any sort was maybe a little bit of excited drool  ewwwww. should the lid be fitting that tight with absolutely no chance of a vacuum? Im scared Im going to snap something
  8. Yeh, it has taps. Ive taken those right off! Its brand new and I need to see what sort of media is in there but cant even get the freakin lid off. Man I feel dumb  I think I will take it back to the shop and ask them to get the lid off.
  9. Does anyone know how to get the freakin lid off an Aqua One 2400 canister filter? Is there a hidden lock somewhere or am I and everyone else who has tried it just having a REALLY bad day? The instructions simply say to unclick all 4 locks holding the powerhead down. Well, Ive done that and it still aint movin!!! Stupid filter
  10. mine did this a while ago and it turned out that the filter had been off for a while and the ammonia build up was HUGE. I did lots of water changes over a couple of days and VERY LIGHTLY rinsed the filter. I hope that helps a little. Ive always thought that hanging at the top was too little oxygen on the water?
  11. depending on who their tankmates are, you could try clown loaches. they are pretty adaptable
  12. I know, I was humming and haaring about hitting the buy now and doing the drive but by the time my A got into G, someone else had beaten me to it
  13. ME ME ME! I NEED your 5ft tank you had for sale on the other place
  14. I am owned by 2 cats, Smelly Allie Cat who was dumped in Cambridge and Parker who believes that the entire 10.5 acre farm NEEDS to be rid of all rabbits, mice, rats and once, a duck!! I have also got an unraced 3yo standardbred gelding. I have recently taken up carriage driving and hopefully will be out there competing next year  And then theres Bob, aka Maniapoto, a rising 19yo gelding that I bought as a 5yo He is leased to a young girl at the moment and is teaching her how to be a correct and competitive rider But all together on the farm we have: 4 x cats 3 x border collies 3 x outdoor goldfish ponds 2 x fish tanks 5 x horses
  15. Hi all Thanks heaps for your thoughts. It seems to have settled down again now. They are all happily swimming in their ammonia free tank and the bristles are back at the bottom where they should be Horrible scare. I gave the wool a very light rinse as well as lots of water changes and it seemed to do the trick. The next step is to tape the plug of the filter to the powerboard
  16. thanks guys, I did another water change (about 75% now) i have got the ammonia down to about 1 (ish). I lost one more yellow. I will do another change in the morning (or maybe about 3am as I probably wont sleep ) and see how I go. Its a 160 litre, 25 degree and running a Jebo filter Its my giraffe and bristles I really dont want to lose :-?
  17. I have just got home to several dead african cichlids. My filter has been unplugged for I dont know how long Massive water change as the ammonia was sitting at 8+ Just tested it again and it is between 2 and 3 and all the fish are at the top of the tank gasping and hovering. Can I rinse some of the filter media as well or is that going to completely ruin everything.????
  18. Hi, Sorry, I wasnt aware of the name Quetzel. We have 2 at home we have been calling redheads :-? Not sure what sex they are but my sister is getting rid of them.
  19. good to hear Candy. I took a few bales of hay out there. None of my porkers will miss a couple. Mine have no idea what they have, stabled every night with a warm dinner, plenty of hay, a selection of rugs to choose from and feet done regularly. They occassionaly have to put up with the yucky tasting wormer but this is followed by treats and molasses! Its a shame, all people cant treat their animals as companions and friends and not just another fashionable appendage.
  20. Over 1/2 of these mares have now been euthanised due to their weak and compromised health. A few of the foals have also been put to rest as the lack of food and quaility milk have led to skeletal and structural deformities that wont allow a pain free existence. I hope they all now rest in peace and the few that have survived this mans greed find loving forever homes.
  21. It is very dry. The sad part is that some of these mares are at least 200kg underweight, feeding a foal AND are back in foal. The services fees for some of these babies would have been in the thousands but he cant afford to buy feed. The drought is hitting a lot of farmers very hard but care of your stock must be paramount. Either sell your stock to someone with the financial ability to keep them well fed or take the very hard stance of euthanasia. To me it would be the last resort but for the sake of the animals wellbeing, a bullet is quite often the best relief these poor horses could get. Nose down in a bucket of feed, they dont even know its coming. Im sure they would prefer this to living the life they currently are.
  22. $30 would buy a bag of feed that would last these poor girls a couple of days. :-? Imagine being this starving and still having to find something from within to feed the baby you will have with you for at least 6 months....... These poor mares are suffering because someone got too greedy. http://www.spca.org.nz/general/home.htm Thanks for looking
  23. and when the truck carrying the boxes crashes, I get to sort out the insurance claim for the truck and any damaged boxes
