  1. dirty buggers! I thought fishkeeping involved whiling away the hours sitting round watching your "placid" wee community tank? So I sleep well now that I know I wont be introducing some new "moll-tail" or "swordllie" species
  2. It does help heaps. Thanks Loopy I knew I had come to the right place.
  3. haha, thanks Caper. I much prefer my finned and furry children. 3 tanks, 1 horse, 1 dog and 2 cats is more than enough for me at the moment.
  4. Hi all you experts out there................. This may seem like a dumb question to those in the know but here goes.... I have been afflicted by what seems to be referred to as MTS!!! :-? :-? I have a 3ft community tank that is housing gouramis, bn's and a proud pair of krib parents and I just added a 2ft that is now housing some swords, guppies and mollies. The 1ft is currently empty. my question is, will mollies and swords cross-breed? The swords I got on the weekend have produced about 30 fry overnight but the mollies are also ready to drop their babies. I have 3 female swords, 1 male sword, 3 female mollies and 2 males. Will they all be okay together?
  5. Hey everyone. Thanks for all the advice. The mollies seem to be very fat again already but I think I will leave them to it this time. It is a heavily planted community tank they are in so best left to nature I think. The kribs however are doing a marvelous job with their new family. I got home on Friday to see about 20 wee babies out for what seemed to be their first excursion round the tank. Heres hoping for more success next time.
  6. hey BlueandKim Can I still put salt in a 3ft, 156 ltr community tank? At present it is housing: Gouramis (dwarf, golden and 3 spot) Mollies pleco bristles Kribs black widow tetras How much do I put in?
  7. thanks Bill I think next time I will set the tank up in the bedroom so I can lull the babes to sleep with the sound of snoring. Hopefully it should keep them out of harms way.
  8. a wee bit pot bellied come to think of it. i checked with all other 2 legged beasts in the house and they all swear that nothing was sprayed near the tank or anything along those lines.
  9. Hey guys, thanks Was it a newly set up tank you put them in.. or one with established water and filter..? ............... I siphoned some of the water from the big tank to fill the wee bubs house rather than new stuff. What have you been feeding.. and how often..?........... They were getting the livebearer liquid fry food 4 times a day What size tank..? .......... Just a wee 20l one with filter etc Temp of tank..? ............ 26 What water changes have you done..? About 10% every couple of days Read what you said... but did they "all" die at once overnight...? Yeh, all of them. Like a doting mum, I got up and went straight to the tank to find them all dead on the gravel. what did I do wrong??
  10. Hey all Can someone please give me some insight as to why all my little wee mollie kids died? I managed to catch about 25 of them before everyone else in the community tank had them for brekkie. I put them in the breeding net while setting up the wee nursery. All were happy and looking forward to moving into the playground. I had them in their own tank for about 2 weeks and all were eating, drinking (!) and generally being merry but a few days ago now, I got up in the morning and all of their lifeless wee bods were on the baottom of them tank. What could have killed the whole tank? Any ideas?
  11. a friend has just bought an 8ft and is looking to get rid of her 5ft........mmm, i feel an upgrade coming on.
  12. oh dear. The BN are in with the babies and the pleco is in the comm tank. So you think I should shaft little mr greedy for a while?
  13. thanks. The tank the mollies are in is only a little 20 litre number and it also has 4 bristles in it. The pleco is only a wee fella, about 5cm and he scoots away really quickly from the kribs. I am doing a 30% water change once a fortnight with a gravel clean but have purposefully not gone near their bell in case of upsetting them. The females belly is the most incredible colour at the moment. A fish shop recently told me to increase the temp by 2 but wont that upset everyone else? It is currently on 26
  14. Hey all I have a planted 3ft community tank with gourami, mollies (happily breeding), neons, a pleco and 2 either frustrated or lazy kribs. Both the kribs are methodically removing all the gravel from the inside of a bell ornament and defending it aggressively. They do this for a week or so and then abandon it only to start the whole process again in about a fortnight. Are they trying to prepare for spawning or am I reading too much into this? I cant take them out of the tank as the spare one is now full of baby mollies. Any help and advice greatly received. Thanks all........
